This guide is for companies with a stake in Remscheid: foreign groups with a subsidiary or plant here, exporters selling tools and components abroad, engineering suppliers, international staff who start a business in the city, and service firms that work for local industry. Web design Remscheid projects rarely fail on colors or fonts. They fail on unclear product data, missing English pages and German legal duties that nobody planned for.
Whether you are new to web design Remscheid projects or replacing an old site, the order matters. We, Talha Aslan and team, have ordered the decisions the way they come up in a real project. Each section ends with something you can check yourself, a question to put to any agency, or a decision to write down.
01What a website has to do in Remscheid's industrial economy
In Remscheid a company website mostly works as a technical sales document for buyers who compare suppliers before they ever pick up the phone. The Bergische IHK, using IT.NRW data, reports that production generated 40.2% of Remscheid's gross value added in 2023, against 27.1% for North Rhine Westphalia as a whole. That makes this city of 113,828 residents (Destatis, end of 2024) unusually industrial.
The same source shows that 51.3% of industrial turnover is earned abroad. A purchasing manager in Milan, Detroit or Shenzhen who has heard that Remscheid makes good tools will check your site before replying to your sales email. If that person finds only a German homepage and a phone number, you lose the first round of the comparison.
Before any design work, rank the jobs your site must do. For Remscheid companies, the usual candidates are:
- Qualify foreign buyers: product range, capabilities, certifications and a contact person they can email in English.
- Serve existing dealers: current data sheets, dimension tables and spare part information without a call to your office.
- Recruit: many people commute into Remscheid for work, so shift patterns, transport links and a short application route matter.
- Reassure authorities and banks: a complete German legal notice and a clear company profile.
Whatever ranks first gets the first screen on a phone and the first item in your analytics goals.
02Who searches for what around Remscheid
Search behavior around Remscheid splits into three groups, and each needs a different kind of page. Buyers search by product and capability, often without naming the city. Locals search by district. Visitors search for sights and services near Lennep or the Müngsten bridge.
- Product searches: "pliers manufacturer Germany", "forged wrenches OEM" or German terms such as "Lohnhärterei" and "Drehteile Lohnfertigung". These land on product group and capability pages, not on your homepage.
- District searches: Remscheid has four districts (the centre, Süd, Lennep and Lüttringhausen) and 50 quarters. Residents type "Elektriker Hasten" or "Zahnarzt Vieringhausen", and map results dominate.
- Expat searches: English speaking newcomers look for "English speaking dentist Remscheid" or "tax advisor English Wuppertal", which favors service firms that write a real English page.
- Visitor searches: people heading to the Röntgen museum or the bridge look for cafés, parking and places to stay.
A quick exercise reveals your gaps. Type your five most important search terms on a phone, once in English and once in German, and note what appears at the top: maps, directories, marketplaces or company sites. Brief your agency with that list instead of a guess.
03Working with a team outside Germany: what a sound remote process looks like
A remote agency works when every decision is written down and progress is visible at any time; distance is rarely the problem, ambiguity is. Talha Aslan and team work from Istanbul. We have no branch, agent or staff in Germany, and Remscheid projects run entirely online. Istanbul is one hour ahead of German time in summer and two hours in winter, so working hours overlap almost completely.
Ask every agency you consider the same questions, and get the answers in writing:
- Do you send a written summary of decisions after each video call?
- Does the scope list pages, languages, revision rounds and what is explicitly excluded?
- Can we open the current build on a password protected preview at any time, not only during presentations?
- Who writes or edits the German and English copy, and who checks technical terms in our field?
- Who handles our project when our main contact is on leave?
Look at live work rather than screenshots. Our completed sites are in Türkiye so far and listed with their addresses on our references page; open a few on your phone, send a test enquiry, and judge us exactly as you would judge a local studio. Mark public holidays in North Rhine Westphalia and in Türkiye on the shared calendar at the start, so approvals do not stall for a week.
04Ownership: domain, hosting, code and accounts in your name
Everything your website depends on should be registered to your company from the first day, not to the agency, a former employee or a parent company contact who may leave. Subsidiaries of foreign groups often discover this late, when the group IT team asks who controls the German domain.
- Domain: register the .de address through a registrar with your company as the holder, and check the DENIC record after the transfer.
- Hosting: contract in your name, servers inside the EU, and a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR signed by you.
- Code and content: a full backup, the list of themes and plugins, and administrator access handed over at launch, with usage rights stated in the contract.
- Google accounts: you are the owner in Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile; the agency is added as a user and removed when the work ends.
- E-mail and DNS: mail runs on your domain, and DNS changes are documented so group IT can audit them.
Test it today: can you find the login for your domain registrar and your hosting panel within five minutes? If not, collecting those accesses is the first task before any redesign. Ask for a one page access list as part of the handover.
05The project step by step, fully online
A Remscheid project never needs an in person meeting; each stage ends with a written result that you can see in our CRM. The usual order:
- Discovery call: we go through your range, your buyers, your languages and your current site on a shared screen.
- Written scope: pages, languages, forms, who supplies which content, and the timeline in one document.
- Structure and content plan: menu, page titles and one purpose per page; product data and photos are requested now.
- Design review: mobile and desktop layouts shown on a live preview, with every change request logged as a numbered item.
- Build and test: forms, consent banner, speed and language versions checked on real devices.
- Launch and training: the site goes live, Search Console is connected, and you get a short recorded walkthrough of the editor.
Calls run in English or German. If you travel to Istanbul anyway, you are welcome to meet us at our office in Ataşehir, but that is optional and no milestone depends on it.
The bottleneck on your side is almost always content. In industrial companies, product data often sits in an ERP system or with an engineer who has little time. Name one person who collects data sheets, photos and legal details, and give each item a date in the scope.
06Local visibility from Lennep to Lüttringhausen
For businesses that serve people in Remscheid, map visibility starts with a complete Google Business Profile that matches your website exactly. Google's guidelines require the business name to match the real world name with no added keywords. If you visit customers rather than receive them, as an installer or cleaning company does, you can hide the address and define a service area instead.
- Category: choose the primary category that describes the core of the business, then add only secondary categories you truly offer.
- Districts in copy: mention quarters such as Reinshagen, Honsberg or Bergisch Born only where you actually take jobs, in natural sentences.
- German directories: Gelbe Seiten, Das Örtliche and 11880 should show the same address, phone number and hours as your profile.
- Reviews: add a review link to invoices or job completion messages, and answer each review briefly and personally.
If you also work in Wermelskirchen, Radevormwald or Wuppertal, do not clone a thin page for every town; Google treats such doorway pages as low value. One honest service area section with real job examples does more. For an industrial supplier, local search matters mostly for recruiting, so make sure the profile links to your careers page as well as the homepage.
07Languages: German first, English and Turkish where they pay
For a company located in Remscheid, German remains the base language, because legal texts, local customers, suppliers and authorities expect it. English becomes essential as soon as a meaningful share of enquiries comes from abroad, which, given the export share above, applies to many manufacturers here.
Some exporters lead in English and keep German for legal pages and key product groups. That works if your German trade customers can still find full product information in German. A Turkish version pays off for service firms whose customers partly speak Turkish, such as insurance brokers, car repair shops or care services; the Röntgen museum offers its guide in Dutch as well, a hint that visitor businesses may benefit from short Dutch sections.
- Separate URLs: each language lives in its own folder, never behind an automatic translation plugin.
- hreflang: each version references itself and every other version; you can build and test the tags with our hreflang generator.
- Equal depth: the English product page carries the same specifications as the German one, not a summary.
- Language switcher: use language names rather than flags, and never force visitors into a version based on browser settings.
Before adding a language, ask one question: can someone answer an enquiry in that language on the same day? If not, do not promise it on the site.
08Speed, hosting and security
Speed matters most where your visitors actually are: a buyer on a train, a technician on a shop floor, a homeowner on mobile data. Google's Core Web Vitals call a page good at the 75th percentile when LCP, which measures how fast the main content loads, is 2.5 seconds or less; INP, which measures how quickly the page responds to a tap, is 200 milliseconds or less; and CLS, which measures how much the layout jumps, is 0.1 or less.
- Images: product and workshop photos in WebP or AVIF, resized for each screen; large catalogue shots should not block the first view.
- Downloads: keep data sheets as compressed PDFs with descriptive file names, linked from the product page rather than embedded.
- Fonts: host typefaces on your own server; a Munich court awarded damages in January 2022 over Google Fonts loaded without consent.
- Hosting: EU data centre, current PHP version, daily automatic backups and a staging copy for updates.
- Security: SSL, two factor login for administrators, regular plugin updates and invisible spam protection on forms.
Ask any agency where backups are stored, how far back they go, and when a restore was last tested. A backup nobody has ever restored is a hope, not a plan. After launch, open your homepage and contact form on a phone once a month and send yourself a test message.
09Remscheid sector examples and the pages they need
The page types a Remscheid company needs follow directly from what the city makes and who it serves. The Bergische IHK counted 2,970 people employed in tool manufacturing and 7,430 in metal goods overall in mid 2025, and the city's tool trade reached world markets around 1800, a story told at the Deutsches Werkzeugmuseum in Hasten.
- Tool and hand tool makers: product groups, size and material tables, downloadable data sheets and a dealer locator. Our catalogue website page explains the structure.
- Contract manufacturers: machine list, materials, tolerances, quality certificates and a quote form that accepts drawings; see the CNC and contract manufacturing website page.
- Industrial suppliers and service firms: reference projects, capabilities and certifications presented for engineers; the manufacturing company website page goes deeper.
- Heating and installation trades: Vaillant Group was founded in Remscheid in 1874 and is still headquartered here; around such firms work installers whose sites need service lists, emergency hours and districts served, as described on our plumbing and heating website page.
- Visitor businesses in Lennep: IT.NRW counted 100,590 overnight stays in Remscheid in 2025, up 28.9%; guesthouses and cafés need clear hours, directions and English sections.
If your customers sit across the Müngsten bridge, our web design Solingen page covers the neighbouring city. Whatever the type, give each page one question to answer and one next step.
10German legal basics every Remscheid site needs
Foreign owned companies in Remscheid follow the same German rules as everyone else, and the legal pages belong in the scope before design starts. The points below are general information, not legal advice; have your texts checked by a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt).
- Legal notice (Impressum): required for commercial sites under § 5 of the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz (DDG), which replaced the TMG in May 2024. It lists company name, address, managing directors, register entry and VAT ID, reachable from every page.
- Privacy statement: once forms, maps or analytics process personal data, a GDPR compliant statement is needed, plus data processing agreements under Art. 28 GDPR with providers such as hosting or booking tools.
- Consent: under § 25 TDDDG, cookies and tracking that are not strictly necessary may only run after the visitor agrees; accept and reject should be equally easy.
- Online shops: for consumer orders, the checkout button must state the payment obligation, for example "zahlungspflichtig bestellen" (§ 312j BGB), and withdrawal information is required.
- Accessibility: the BFSG has applied to many consumer facing shops and services since 28 June 2025; micro enterprises providing services, with fewer than 10 staff and at most 2 million euros turnover or balance sheet, are exempt. Check whether it applies to you.
Group subsidiaries should align the German privacy statement with the group policy, but the German version must reflect what actually runs on the German site.
11Relaunching without losing rankings
If your current site has been live for years, the biggest relaunch risk is losing the visibility it has built up when URLs change. Treat a relaunch like moving a warehouse: nothing moves before it is on the inventory list.
- Inventory: export every old URL, the pages that get traffic in Search Console and the pages that other sites link to.
- Mapping: match each old URL to the closest new one; our redirect mapping tool speeds up the table.
- Permanent redirects: implement the map with status code 301, and never send everything to the homepage.
- Launch day checks: confirm that robots.txt carries no leftover block from staging and that the sitemap lists the new URLs.
- First weeks: watch 404 errors and indexing in Search Console and close gaps immediately.
To remove a page from Google, do not block it in robots.txt; Google cannot read a noindex tag on a blocked page. Keep it crawlable and mark it noindex.
Product pages of a tool maker often carry years of links from dealers and trade portals. Keep those URLs where possible, or redirect each one precisely, before you change anything else.
12Common mistakes on Remscheid company sites
Most recurring problems on Remscheid company sites are simple to fix, and each has a better alternative.
- The whole range in one PDF catalogue: give each product group its own indexable page and offer the PDF as a download.
- English pages added by a translation plugin: write or edit English copy with someone who knows the technical vocabulary of your field.
- A quote form that rejects drawings: accept common CAD and PDF formats and say which details you need for a price.
- Careers hidden in the footer: give commuters a real careers page with shifts, transport and a short application route.
- Tracking before consent: load analytics and external fonts only after consent, or host fonts yourself.
- Cloned pages for every nearby town: write one honest service area section instead.
Count how many of these six apply to your current site. If the first two do, restructuring your content is more urgent than a new visual design.
13What drives the budget
Scope, not location, drives the cost of a website; a company in Remscheid works with the same packages as a client in Istanbul. When you compare offers, make sure you compare the same scope. The main drivers:
- Pages and languages: two full language versions are substantially more work than one.
- Product data: a catalogue with hundreds of articles, filters and data sheets is a major item, including data preparation.
- Special functions: dealer locator, drawing upload, trade account requests or online payment are each planned separately.
- Content: whether you or we write copy and produce photos changes the budget noticeably.
- Integrations and migration: connecting an ERP or PIM export and moving old content with a redirect table both take time.
The honest way to lower cost is to phase the scope: German and English core pages first, then the full catalogue, then extras. Each phase should work on its own when it goes live. Also compare what happens after launch: updates, backups and small text changes. In web design Remscheid offers, that line is often the least read and the most argued about later.
14The first 90 days and your next step
The value of a web design Remscheid project shows in the three months after launch, when you measure and correct. Plan them simply:
- Days 1 to 30: check indexing in Search Console, form and call tracking, and the link between your Business Profile and the site.
- Days 30 to 60: see which product, district and English queries you appear for, and strengthen one or two weak pages.
- Days 60 to 90: sort enquiries by language and source; if English or Turkish brings requests, deepen that version.
Before you decide, answer three questions: who must the site convince first, which languages are genuinely needed, and who will deliver product or service data? With clear answers, any web design Remscheid quote becomes easy to compare.
Fixed packages and what they include are listed in the pricing section of our web design page; catalogues, shops and multi language builds are quoted in writing. To discuss your web design Remscheid plans on a short video call, get in touch through our contact page, and we will send a written scope and quote afterwards.
