Title & Meta Description Limits: What You Need to Know
Google truncates titles and descriptions by pixels, not characters. A "W" is three times wider than an "i", so a 55-character title may get cut while a 65-character one displays fully. This tool measures your text with the font Google uses and calculates the real pixel width instead of just counting characters like most tools do.
Practical limits: about 580 pixels for the title on desktop (roughly 50-60 characters) and about 920 pixels for the description (roughly 150-160 characters). On mobile, titles can wrap to two lines and show slightly longer. Always put your key message and main keyword in the first half of the title; even if it gets cut, you lose nothing important.
The description is not a ranking factor, but it directly affects click-through rate (CTR). When the searched term appears in your description, Google bolds it; placing your target query naturally in the description increases clicks. Type your target keyword in the "search query" field above to see this effect live.
