SEO-Friendly URLs: Short, Readable and Clear Addresses
A URL slug is the final part of an address: yoursite.com/seo-friendly-url. A good slug is short, readable and made of words that clearly state the page's topic; it is a strong context signal for both users and search engines. The most common mistake is leaving Turkish characters (ç, ş, ğ, ı, ö, ü) in the URL as-is or transliterating them wrongly; this tool converts them to correct ASCII equivalents (c, s, g, i, o, u), and for German applies the SEO-standard ä→ae, ö→oe, ü→ue, ß→ss.
Healthy slug rules: replace spaces with hyphens (not underscores; Google prefers the hyphen as a word separator), lowercase everything, drop punctuation and special characters, and don't make the slug needlessly long. Removing filler words (stop words) like "and, or, the, der" simplifies the slug; but keep them if dropping them would break the meaning. One important note: if you change the slug of an already-published page, remember to set a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one, or you lose the accumulated SEO value and links.
A clean URL structure is one small part of a solid site.
Slugs matter; but the real difference is building the whole URL architecture, internal linking and content clusters around search intent. Let's design your site's SEO structure together.
