Instagram Bio Generator
An Instagram bio generator and a library of bio ideas in one place: hundreds of short, aesthetic and funny lines, 10 to 12 bios built from your name, niche and business, a character counter for each platform and fancy fonts. Free, no sign-up.
In AI mode only your niche, interests and product are sent to an AI provider in the USA (Groq, or Cloudflare as a fallback) and not stored; your name, city and business name stay in your browser.
Style a short part such as your name or one accent, not the whole bio. Screen readers may spell these characters out or skip them, and search may not match them to the plain word.

How to use the Instagram Bio Generator
- 1Pick the platform and bio type
Choose Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, a YouTube channel description, a LinkedIn headline or Twitch. Then set the bio type: personal, creator or business.
- 2Tell the tool who you are
Your name is optional. Add your job or niche, your city and up to three interests; the business type also opens fields for the business name and your products or services.
- 3Set the vibe, emojis and lines
Pick a tone such as short, deep, cool, attitude, meaningful, funny, aesthetic or motivation. Set emojis to 0, 1 or 2 and pick 1 to 4 lines, then pick Link, DM or Email under Call to action if you want one.
- 4Compare the cards on a phone preview
Each card shows the bio as a profile preview with a character counter and a checklist. Text over the limit turns red, and More like this adds fresh options close to a card you like.
- 5Copy, save or style it
Hit Copy to grab the bio or tap the star to add it to Favorites. To make your name or one word stand out, Style with fonts sends that piece to the Fonts tab.
How does the Instagram bio generator build a bio?
The template engine builds every card from four blocks and trims it to the number of lines you choose. It does not hand out a score; instead, each card carries a checklist of simple ticks.
An identity line from your name, job and city, for example "Nutritionist · London". For a business, the tool uses the business name and product field instead: "Ceramics studio · Bristol".Creator and business bios get a promise line built from your interests: what you post or what you sell, in one sentence. In a personal bio the tone line takes this spot.A neutral line from the idea library in the tone you picked. If an interest matches a topic such as travel, sport or photography, the tool also pulls lines from that category. In a personal bio with two or three interests, it lists them on one line: "pilates · coffee · books".If you choose link, DM or email, the last line is a call to action such as "DM to book" or "New video below". With None, the tool leaves it out.At 0 there are no emojis. At 1 each line keeps at most one emoji. At 2 the tool also adds an emoji that fits the tone or bio type to lines that have none.If a bio runs over the platform limit, the tool first swaps the long quote for a shorter one. If that is not enough, it drops the least important line: the interest line first, then the quote, the promise and the call to action. The tool counts on the safe side: the number on the counter is the text's UTF-16 length, so most emojis and fancy letters count as 2 and combined emojis as more. A line break counts as 1. On X, the tool also applies X's weighted counting rule and shows whichever number is higher.Within the limit, a who or what line, a why follow line and a call to action for creators and businesses, no more emojis than lines, no more than 4 lines, and whether your job, product or city appears in the bio.The checklist is a reminder, not a quality score. A personal bio without a why follow line is fine; in a business bio, though, the tool flags a missing call to action.
Bio examples by type
I wrote these bios for this guide; you will not find them in the ready-made list. A slash marks each line break, and every line break counts as 1 on the counter. For a LinkedIn headline, the tool joins the lines into one with a | separator.
| Bio type | Platform | Example bio | Counter / limit | Visible characters |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | Maya · Leeds / film cameras and long walks / 🎞️ posting the good ones | 66 / 150 | 64 | |
| Creator | TikTok | 15-minute dinners 🍳 new recipe every Tuesday | 45 / 80 | 44 |
| Local business | Northside Pilates · Brooklyn / Reformer and mat, groups of 6 max / 📅 Book a trial class below | 90 / 150 | 89 | |
| Online store | Handmade ceramic mugs / Every piece is one of a kind / 🚚 UK-wide delivery · DM to order | 84 / 150 | 83 | |
| Professional | LinkedIn headline | Performance marketer | Google Ads & Meta Ads | Measurable growth for ecommerce brands | 85 / 220 | 85 |
| Personal | X | I build mobile games. Expect half-finished prototypes, bug reports and the occasional good idea. | 96 / 160 | 96 |
The counter column is the number the tool shows on the card. The gap comes from emojis: 🎞️ is one symbol on screen but 3 units on the counter, and 🍳 is 2. Without emojis, both numbers match. Business names and details are made up for the example.
Bio character limits by platform
I took these limits from each platform's own help pages and documentation, and the counter in the tool uses the same values. Since I found no official number for Threads, the tool uses Instagram's 150 there.
| Platform and field | Official limit | Source | Practical note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram bio | 150 characters | Instagram Help Center | Your bio is public, even when your account is private. |
| Instagram links | Up to 5 websites | Instagram Help Center | You can reorder the links from your profile. |
| TikTok bio | 80 characters | TikTok Help Center | The name (nickname) field takes 30 characters and can change once every 7 days. |
| X bio | 160 characters | X Help Center | Location and website have their own fields, so keep them out of the bio. |
| Threads bio | No official number published | Instagram Help Center (Threads) | You edit the bio and links inside Threads; the tool uses 150, but check the counter in the app too. |
| YouTube channel description | 1,000 characters | YouTube Data API docs | Your channel home tab can show up to 14 links. |
| LinkedIn headline | 220 characters | LinkedIn Talent Blog | The tool joins the lines into one with a | separator. |
| Twitch bio | 300 characters | Twitch Help Center | It shows under your stream when you are live; the tool joins the lines into one paragraph with a · separator. |
Platform rules change. Before a campaign or a brand launch, check the relevant help page and the counter in your app. If the two disagree, the counter wins.
What does this Instagram bio generator do?
This Instagram bio generator writes the short text under your name on Instagram, TikTok or X. It also gives you hundreds of hand-written bio ideas to start from. You fill in a few details, such as your job, city and interests. The tool then builds a set of bios in your chosen tone and shows each one on a phone-style profile preview with a live character counter. When I take over a client account, the bio is the first thing I read, because a profile visitor usually decides whether to follow from those few lines.
The tool has four tabs:
- Generate: choose the platform, the bio type (personal, creator or business), the tone, emojis and number of lines. Every card comes with a counter and a checklist.
- Bio ideas: ready-made lines in categories like short, deep, cool, attitude, funny, love and aesthetic, with a filter for girls, boys or neutral and a search box.
- Fonts: turns your name or a single word into bold, italic, script and other Unicode styles you can copy and paste.
- Favorites: keeps the bios and ideas you like in your browser.
The template engine runs entirely in your browser and needs no sign-up. The page also lists ready-made ideas by category. In this guide, however, I skip repeating that list and focus on making a bio fit your own account.
How do you turn bio ideas into a bio that sounds like you?
A ready-made idea is a fast start. Copied word for word, however, it makes you one of thousands of profiles with the same line. Treat it as a frame instead, then add one detail that only you could write. These four moves do most of the work:
- Add something concrete. "Quiet type" becomes "Quiet type, loud playlists". A hobby, a city or a number turns a generic line into yours.
- Match the vibe to your feed. An aesthetic bio above a feed full of memes feels off. Your bio works like a trailer for what people will see next.
- Aim at no one. Deep and attitude lines can be moody, bold or mysterious; still, a line about an ex tells that story to every visitor.
- One line, one feeling. Stacking two quotes usually weakens both. Use the spare line for who you are or for a link instead.
That is why the tone chips in the generator share their names with the idea categories. When you pick Aesthetic, the tone line comes from that category, while the identity line comes from what you typed. The quote carries the mood and the identity line carries the context. Looking for a bio for girls or for boys? Use the filter in the Bio ideas tab. That said, I wrote most lines to be neutral on purpose, because a good bio does not need a gender stereotype.
Does your bio help people find you in Instagram search?
Yes, but in Instagram's own explanations your username and name field come first. Back in 2021, Instagram called the text you type into search by far the most important signal. It matches that text against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places (Instagram blog). The same post calls a handle or profile name related to your content your best bet for showing up in relevant searches.
Meta's transparency page, updated in June 2026, points the same way. Specifically, one signal behind the accounts Instagram suggests as you type is how closely your search words match the account's username or profile name (Meta Transparency Center). So I set profiles up like this:
- Name field: your name plus one keyword, for example "Maya Clarke | Nutritionist London". Pick the word people would actually type.
- Bio: use words that describe who you are and what you post, in a natural sentence. If you run a local business, add your neighborhood or city; Instagram recommends this for local businesses too.
- Username: short and easy to remember; if it also carries your niche, that is a bonus.
Keyword stuffing backfires, though, because the profile starts to read like an ad board. If you are unsure which word to target, the method in how to find keywords that drive sales works for Instagram as well. The checklist in the tool also suggests a keyword for your name field.
How should a business write its Instagram bio?
In a business bio the quote takes a back seat. A visitor needs three answers in two seconds: what do you sell, where or how, and what should I do now? That is why the tool opens business name and product fields when you pick the business type.
- Local business: what you do, your neighborhood or city and how to reach you. One call to action is enough, such as "DM to book" or "Directions in the link". To keep the same details consistent on Google, see my guide to Google Maps SEO.
- Online store: the product, the one thing that sets you apart and a trust signal such as delivery time, easy returns or handmade production. If you mention a sale, add the end date and remove it when it ends.
Instagram lets you add up to 5 websites to your profile and reorder them, so put the link you most want clicked first. Add UTM parameters to each link and your analytics will show Instagram visits separately. If you take orders on WhatsApp, a WhatsApp link with a prefilled message saves customers from writing the first line.
When you type @ and another account in your bio, Instagram turns it into a live link. The mentioned account then gets a notification and can remove the link (Instagram announcement). That works well for a founder or a second store account. Finally, your bio should sound like your website and your packaging. In my brand identity projects, that consistency is one of the first things we settle.
What should a creator bio promise?
A creator bio answers one question for a profile visitor: what will I get if I follow? That is why the creator type adds a promise line under the identity line. A good promise line carries three things:
- Niche: "15-minute dinners" instead of a vague "food". A narrow description finds the right people faster.
- Rhythm: a frequency like "every Tuesday" or "one tip a day" makes the payoff concrete. However, only promise a rhythm you can keep.
- Collab channel: brands that find you need to know where to write. An email or a "DM for collabs" line does the job.
I would keep follower counts, view records and lines like "almost at 10K" out of your bio. They date quickly, and the counter at the top of your profile already shows them. Point people to your highlights or a pinned post instead.
On the brand side, the bio is the first filter too. In my influencer marketing work, I check a creator's bio first: is the niche clear, is there a contact channel, does the tone fit the brand? Once your bio is set, try the meme caption generator for your posts; both tools share the same family of tones.
How does the Instagram bio generator handle TikTok, X and LinkedIn limits?
Pasting the same bio everywhere is the most common shortcut I see, and it usually breaks somewhere. TikTok's help page says a bio cannot exceed 80 characters. Instagram allows 150 and X allows 160. That is why platform is the first choice in the generator; the counter on every card shows the limit for the platform you picked.
- TikTok: one line, one promise. Identity and rhythm are enough; if you want a quote, take one from the short category.
- X: 160 characters fit a full sentence. Location and website have their own fields, so do not spend the bio on them.
- LinkedIn headline: the 220 characters are search terms, not a list of titles. Say what you do, what you specialize in and who you serve, and skip emojis and fancy fonts here.
- YouTube: a channel description can run to 1,000 characters (YouTube Data API). Let the first sentence sum up the channel and add your upload rhythm.
One warning about counting. Platforms do not publish exactly how they count a bio. On top of that, an emoji can look like one symbol yet take up several code units behind the scenes; 🎞️, for instance, takes three. So the tool counts on the safe side: the counter overcounts emojis and fancy letters, and on X it also applies X's weighted rule. If the counter stays within the limit, your bio will very likely fit on the platform too. To measure a long YouTube description separately, the word counter does the job.
Are fancy fonts and emojis a good idea in your bio?
In small doses, yes: a name or one word is plenty. Fancy fonts are not really fonts; they are Unicode math and symbol characters, which is why they survive copy and paste. The same fact causes a side effect. Screen readers often do not read these characters as letters; some announce each symbol by name, others skip it. A blind visitor may get nothing at all from a bio written entirely in fancy text.
Accented letters add a second problem: é, ñ or ü have no fancy versions, so the tool leaves them unchanged and one word ends up with two looks. In the Fonts tab I therefore suggest these rules:
- Style your name or one accent word, not the whole bio.
- Write the keyword you want to be found for in plain letters. Fancy letters are separate characters, and Instagram does not explain how search matches them.
- Use emojis as markers at the start of a line (📍, 📩, 🛒). A screen reader announces each emoji's name, so a row of five emojis becomes five words of noise for a listener.
Fancy letters are also expensive on the counter: "Maya" in bold shows 4 letters on screen, yet the tool counts 8, because every fancy letter takes 2 units. The same restraint applies to emojis, so the emoji setting in the tool puts at most one emoji on each line. For more styles and a larger preview, see the fancy text generator. If you wonder how accessibility is measured on a website, my guide to web accessibility and WCAG is a good start.
How often should you change your bio, and what should stay private?
Keep the identity line stable and rotate the call to action. Who you are or what you sell rarely changes week to week; campaigns, new videos and seasons do. I tell clients to think of the bio as a shop window: the glass stays, the display behind it changes.
Know two limits before you experiment. On Instagram, a username change on an account that reaches a lot of people may go through a review. In addition, Instagram may notify your followers. On TikTok, the name field can change only once every 7 days. So test with the bio text, not with your name or username.
Your Instagram bio is public even if your account is private. For that reason, keep these out of it:
- a personal phone number or home address,
- your school, class or any place you go every day, especially for teens,
- details like your birth date that often appear in security questions.
Businesses are different, since an address and a phone number are public business details anyway. Even then, use a business line or a contact link rather than a personal number. The tool also runs your name, job and interests through a safety filter. If the input contains insults, hate or explicit wording, it generates nothing and shows a polite warning instead.
Common bio mistakes
- ✕MistakeWriting the whole bio in a fancy font.✓Do this insteadScreen readers often cannot read these characters, and accented letters stay plain. Style only your name or a single word.
- ✕MistakePutting keywords only in the bio and leaving the name field bare.✓Do this insteadMeta ranks suggested accounts partly on how closely the search words match the username and profile name. Add a job or city next to your name.
- ✕MistakePasting one bio into every platform.✓Do this insteadTikTok cuts off at 80 characters, and a LinkedIn headline does a different job altogether. Generate a separate card for each platform and watch the counter.
- ✕MistakeSaying "link in bio" and never updating the links.✓Do this insteadRemove links from finished campaigns, move the most important one to the top and tag links with UTM parameters. Then you can see which bio line drives clicks.
- ✕MistakeListing a personal phone, school or home address.✓Do this insteadAn Instagram bio stays public even on a private account. Leave personal contact to DMs; if you are a business, use a business line.
