What Is My IP?

Note: your IP is already sent to the server as a technical necessity whenever you visit any website; we merely show it back to you and do not store it.
IP Address: Your Address on the Internet
An IP address is the numeric address your device uses to send and receive data on the internet; what a home address is to a courier, an IP is to data packets reaching your device. The public IP you see above is the address your internet provider assigns you and the outside world sees; behind your home router, devices also carry local IPs (like 192.168.x.x). On most home connections the public IP changes over time (dynamic IP); a static IP is usually sold as an extra service.
An IP alone does not reveal your identity but carries an approximate location (city level) and provider info; sites use it for language selection, regional content and security (suspicious-login detection). With a VPN on, you will see the VPN server's address here; it is the quickest way to verify your VPN works. Because IPv4 addresses (e.g. 85.34.x.x) have run out, the internet is gradually moving to the longer IPv6 format; seeing both is normal.
