Image Resizing: Cutting KB While Keeping Quality
Two things determine a photo's file size: its pixel dimensions (width × height) and the compression quality. The biggest win almost always comes from resizing: phone cameras shoot 4000 pixels wide while 1280-1920 pixels is plenty for a web form or site; that step alone often cuts the file to a tenth. Compression is the second lever: at 70-85% quality, JPG and WebP save serious KB with loss invisible to the eye. WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same visible quality; make it your first choice when the receiving system accepts it.
The critical difference of this tool is privacy: the image is never uploaded to any server; resizing happens on your device with the browser's own drawing engine (canvas) and the file downloads directly. For IDs, documents and personal photos this is fundamentally safer than "upload-shrink-download" sites. Note: PNG is a lossless format unaffected by the quality slider; stay on PNG for screenshots and transparent logos, pick JPG/WebP for photos.
