Percent means "per hundred", how many parts of a whole divided into a hundred, and it is perhaps the math operation we use most in daily life: the discount in a shop, the tip at a restaurant, a salary raise, an exam grade, loan interest and VAT all run on percentages. This tool solves the three core percentage questions: what is a certain percent of a number (15% of 200 = 30), what percent one value is of another (30 is 15% of 200) and what percent change occurred between two values (from 100 to 150 is a 50% increase).
The most confused point is the difference between "percentage points" and "percent change": when a rate goes from 20% to 25%, that is a 5 percentage-point increase, but as a percent change it is a 25% increase. Similarly, a value that first rises 50% then falls 50% does not return to its starting point (100 → 150 → 75). This tool uses the correct formulas to prevent such mistakes; all calculation happens in your browser and no data is stored.
