HTML Color Codes: What HEX, RGB and HSL Mean
Colors on the web are written in three common notations. HEX (like #1ABC9C) combines red-green-blue values in base-16 and is the most used format in CSS. RGB writes the same three channels openly in 0-255; rgba() adds transparency. HSL describes color closest to human intuition: hue (0-360°), saturation and lightness. Lightening or darkening a brand color and deriving harmonious tones is far easier in HSL; the shade scale in this tool does exactly that. The CMYK value serves the print world as an approximate conversion of a screen color.
Practical tips: always store brand colors as HEX and use the same code on every channel; "roughly the same blue" quietly erodes brand consistency. Mind accessibility contrast in text-background combinations (dark background + light text or vice versa).
