Most people who open a Samsun company's website have never been to Samsun. They are hospital purchasing managers, freight agents in Novorossiysk or Batumi, or wholesale buyers looking for rice from the Bafra plain. The site is their first and often only look at the business before they decide whether to send an enquiry.
We wrote this guide for Samsun manufacturers, logistics firms, growers and hotels, and for the buyers and partners abroad who work with them. It follows the order in which decisions are made in a web design Samsun project, with questions to ask, checks you can run yourself and choices that fit the province's own economy.
01What a Website Has to Prove in Samsun's Economy
In Samsun, a website mainly has to convince a buyer far away that the company is serious. A report by the Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, based on TÜİK data, shows the province produced 1.15% of Turkey's output in 2024, ranking 18th of 81 provinces. Output per person, however, reached only 73.4% of the national average, ahead of Trabzon at 68.8% and Ordu at 58.4%.
Read together, those two figures explain the job of the site. The economy is large, but local purchasing power is limited, so growth comes from customers in Ankara, Istanbul, the Gulf or across the Black Sea. Those customers judge you before they ever see the factory floor. Before any design work starts, write down answers to three questions:
- The distant buyer: Which document, product detail or reference makes someone who has never met you ask for a quote?
- The local customer: Can a visitor from İlkadım or Atakum find your address, opening hours and phone number without scrolling?
- Your sales team: Which page do your people want to send after a trade fair meeting or a first call?
These answers decide the first sentence on the home page and the order of the menu. Colors and fonts come later, once the site knows whom it is talking to.
02Who Searches for Samsun Businesses, and When
Searches around Samsun split clearly by district, sector and season, and each group expects a different page. A family in the city center and a grower in Çarşamba arrive at the same company with completely different questions.
- Central districts: In Atakum, İlkadım, Canik and Tekkeköy, people add the district name, as in "Atakum dentist" or "Tekkeköy forklift repair"; maps, phone buttons and opening hours win here.
- The plains: In Bafra, Çarşamba and Terme, searches for seed, crop protection, farm machinery and greenhouse supplies follow the planting and harvest calendar.
- Students and parents: Ondokuz Mayıs University's campus in Atakum drives searches for dorms, rentals and transport at the start of each semester.
- Visitors: The 19 May commemorations, the summer season and birdwatching in the Kızılırmak Delta feed searches for hotels and restaurants.
- Professional buyers: A procurement officer rarely types a city name; they search for a product code, an instrument name or a material grade.
A useful exercise: list the five searches that bring you the most revenue and write next to each one the page that should answer it. Any search with nothing next to it marks a missing page.
03Working With a Studio Outside Samsun
Our work with Samsun companies runs entirely online; we have no office, agent or representative in the province. With that model, you should choose a partner by how clearly the process is written down and tracked, not by how close they are.
Ask every studio you talk to for written answers to these questions:
- Page list: Which pages, language versions and how many product imports are in the quote, and how is extra work priced?
- Decision log: Who sends a written summary after each call, and within how many days?
- Status: Where can you see the current stage of the project without sending a message to ask?
- Relevant work: Can they show a live site with a coded product catalog, a document archive or a quote form in several languages?
- Who answers: When you ask a technical question, does a salesperson reply or the person doing the work?
Judge live work on your own phone rather than on screenshots. Fill in a form, search a product page and notice how long each page takes to appear. You can test our own live projects that way on the references page; none of them is in Samsun, and we would rather say so up front.
04Owning the Domain, the Catalog Data and the Accounts
The site, the domain and the product data inside it should belong to your company, and the contract should say so in plain words. For a medical manufacturer with hundreds of product codes, this is more than a legal detail: the catalog data is the most valuable digital asset the company owns.
On launch day, check these points together with your agency:
- Domain: The registrant is your company, and renewal notices go to a shared company mailbox, not to one employee who may leave.
- Product data: Codes, sizes, materials and document links can be exported in one go as a spreadsheet or CSV file.
- Documents: Certificates and technical sheets also live in a folder you control, not only inside the website.
- Analytics and profiles: Search Console, GA4 and your Google Business Profile sit under your company account; the agency only gets user access.
- Distributor area: If dealers log in, you can add, remove and limit their accounts from your own panel.
The check takes about half an hour. In return, changing agencies or losing a staff member never turns into months of recovering logins. Because the code is yours as well, moving the site to another server later is a technical task, not a matter of asking permission.
05How a Samsun Project Runs, Step by Step
What keeps a web design Samsun project moving is a written record of who approved each step and when. Our process looks like this:
- Discovery call: On a video call with screen sharing, we go through your products, buyer types, export markets and current site, in English or Turkish.
- Written proposal: Page list, language versions, product import and timeline arrive in one document; work starts once you approve it.
- Collecting material: Product sheets, certificates and photos of the plant, port yard or fields go into a shared folder, with a missing items list updated weekly.
- Design approval: You review the design on a live link, on your phone and your computer, and leave comments right on the relevant section.
- Build and testing: Forms, language switching, product search and document downloads are tested on different devices.
- Launch and training: On launch day we show your team how to add products, replace documents and read incoming requests.
You follow every step live in our CRM. If you happen to be in Istanbul, we can also meet in person at our office in Ataşehir by appointment; tracking continues on the same screen.
Step three usually decides the timeline. When product lists, certificates and photos sit in different departments, make one person responsible for collecting them.
06Local Search in Atakum, İlkadım and the Plains
Local visibility starts with your Google Business Profile and your website showing exactly the same details.
Google's guidelines say the business name on the profile must match your real world name, with no added keywords. A name like "Company Atakum Cheapest Air Conditioning Repair" risks suspension. Service area businesses can hide their address and define the areas they serve instead, which suits a firm with a depot in Tekkeköy that sends technicians as far as Bafra.
For district pages, we follow these rules:
- Real coverage only: List only the districts you actually serve; if no crew of yours ever drives to Vezirköprü, there is no Vezirköprü page.
- No doorway pages: Pages that only swap the district name while the text stays the same are what Google treats as doorway pages, and they can hurt the whole site.
- Something specific: A separate Çarşamba page earns its place with real jobs done there, travel times and services particular to that area.
- Consistent details: Company name, address and phone number read the same on the site, the profile and directory listings.
For a medical manufacturer or a freight company, local search is secondary, because the buyer searches for the product or the route. In those firms, the depth of product and service pages does more work than district pages. If you want to plan local and product search together, see our SEO service.
07Russian, Georgian, English: Choosing the Second Language
The second language on a Samsun site should follow who actually buys from the company, because every language version is another set of pages to publish and maintain. Samsunport says the port works with ports in Russia, Georgia, Romania and Bulgaria, while sector figures say surgical instruments made in Samsun reach 120 countries. Those two facts lead to different decisions.
- Medical exports: English usually comes first; Arabic, French or Russian can follow depending on where your distributors are concentrated.
- Port and freight: For agents and shippers across the Black Sea, Russian often matters more than English, and a Georgian version builds trust on the Georgian routes.
- Agricultural produce: If most wholesale buyers are in Turkey, a second language can wait; when exports begin, translate only the product and contact pages first.
- Tourism: For a hotel in Atakum, the share of guests arriving through international booking channels tells you whether another language is worth it.
Technically, each language lives at its own address and uses hreflang annotations, tags that tell Google which language a page is in, pointing to every other version and to itself. You can draft those tags with our hreflang generator. URLs and titles in Cyrillic or Georgian script should be planned before launch, not patched later.
A machine translated Russian page makes a company look smaller to an experienced freight agent. A native speaker's review removes that risk; the wider setup is covered on our multilingual website page.
08Keeping Heavy Catalogs Fast and Secure
For Samsun sites full of product photos, technical drawings and PDFs, speed is an engineering problem to solve before design details. A careless catalog keeps a buyer waiting on a phone at a trade fair stand.
We measure speed against Google's Core Web Vitals, which count as good when 75% of visits meet them: LCP, the time until the largest piece of content appears, at 2.5 seconds or less; INP, how quickly the page responds to a tap or click, at 200 milliseconds or less; and CLS, how much the layout shifts while loading, at 0.1 or less.
On catalog sites, these are the measures that protect those numbers:
- Image sizes: Product photos are served in several sizes and in light formats such as WebP; listing pages load only thumbnails.
- Document weight: Certificates and data sheets download on click, never while the page loads, and file names match the product code.
- Code search: Product code search runs on a lightweight index, so it stays quick across thousands of codes.
- Security: SSL on every page, backups stored away from the web server and two step verification on panel logins.
Where distributors log in, one named person must own updates; an outdated plugin can expose a dealer list. Test on a real phone over mobile data as well, the way a driver at the port gate would.
09Site Structures for Samsun's Main Sectors
Your sector decides which pages carry the most weight. The structures below are not client cases; they are the setups we recommend for business types common in Samsun.
- Surgical instrument maker: Layers by specialty, instrument family and code, with size, material, sterilization notes and related documents on each code page. You decide which documents are public and which go out on request. Our website for manufacturers page shows the production side in more detail.
- Freight and customs firm: Route pages, a quote form split by cargo type, a service page explaining rail connected transport through the port and a Russian version. See the website for logistics companies page for a sample structure.
- Rice and greenhouse grower: Varieties, harvest windows, packing and lab results, with current stock and season information instead of prices. The website for agricultural businesses page covers growers in Bafra and Çarşamba.
- Hotel in Atakum: Distances to the beach and the campus, an enquiry page opened early for graduation weeks and 19 May, and a call button on the first screen of a phone.
- Thermal hotel in Havza: Clear pool, room and package information that avoids health claims about the water.
If a rule applies to your sector, such as limits on how medical devices may be promoted, share it on the first call so that structure and tone are built around it.
10Legal Basics: KVKK, Cookies and Online Sales
Legal texts must describe what the site really does and be ready before launch.
- Privacy notice: Article 10 of Turkey's data protection law KVKK (Law No. 6698) requires an information notice wherever you collect personal data, including sample and quote forms.
- Dealer data: For contact details stored in a distributor area, write down who can access them and how long they are kept.
- Cookies: In the EU, consent is needed before non essential tracking, and Google requires consent mode for measurement and personalized advertising features for visitors from the European Economic Area.
- Online sales: If you sell packaged rice or local produce to consumers online, Turkish distance sales rules require preliminary information, a distance sales contract and withdrawal right details before payment.
The promotion of medical devices is regulated separately. Check with your adviser which product information may sit on a public page under the current rules of Turkey's medicines and medical devices agency and of each country you sell into. If you target customers in the EU, ask the same adviser whether European data protection law applies to you as well.
The legal content of these texts is your and your adviser's responsibility. Our part is making sure each text sits on the right page, is easy to read and is linked to the forms it covers.
11Redesigning Without Breaking Distributor Links
The biggest risk in a redesign is changing product and document addresses that Google has known for years without a plan. For Samsun manufacturers the risk is larger, because distributors have already pasted old PDF links into their own catalogs and tender files.
- Inventory: List every page and PDF address on the current site, the ones bringing traffic in Search Console and the ones with external links.
- Mapping: Match each old product address to the page with the same code on the new site; never send everything to the home page.
- Permanent redirects: Set up the matches as 301 redirects, which tell browsers and Google that a page has moved for good.
- Staging: Protect the new site with a password. Google cannot read a noindex tag on a page blocked in robots.txt; to keep a page out of the index, it has to be crawlable and carry noindex.
- After launch: In the first weeks, watch error reports and the most visited old addresses closely.
You can compare old and new address lists with our redirect mapping tool and spot missing matches before launch. Send distributors the new document addresses as well.
If the domain changes as well, for example from an old extension to a new brand, use the change of address tool in Search Console and keep renewing the old domain for years. Letting it lapse hands its old links to whoever registers it next.
12Common Mistakes on Samsun Company Sites
Most recurring mistakes on Samsun company sites come from misreading the buyer, not from design. These are the six most common, with a better alternative for each:
- One giant catalog PDF: Instead of a file hundreds of pages long, give every product code its own searchable page and keep the PDF as an optional download.
- Certificates as photos: Instead of a scanned image, write the document's name, issuing body and expiry date as text and attach the original.
- Russian on a single page: Instead of a short translation of the home page, build a small but complete Russian version that covers routes, services and the quote form.
- Missing the season: Instead of opening summer pages for Atakum in June, publish them in spring so search engines have time to find them.
- Copied district pages: Instead of duplicating the same text for every district, state your real service area clearly on one page.
- No enquiry tracking: Track forms, call taps and WhatsApp messages as conversions from day one, and keep domestic and foreign enquiries apart.
Most of these can be fixed without a full redesign; first ask which need only content and structure changes.
13What Drives the Budget, Without Numbers
Scope, not the city, sets the cost of a web design Samsun project; our prices are the same in every province. These decisions move the quote the most:
- Number of products and import: A tidy spreadsheet imports quickly; scattered codes, sizes and images need data cleanup first.
- Language versions: Languages with other scripts, such as Russian and Georgian, need adapted copy, proofreading and URL planning.
- Dealer and sample modules: A distributor login or sample tracking is a small software project on top of the website.
- Photos and copy: Whether you shoot the plant, the port yard or the fields yourself or hire a photographer changes both timeline and scope.
- Integrations: Pulling stock from an ERP or pushing enquiries into a CRM is planned separately.
A sensible way to reduce scope is to launch with only the product families that sell most and one extra language, then plan the second phase around real search data.
When comparing quotes, check whether each states how many products are imported, which languages are included, who writes the copy and how long support lasts after launch.
14The First 90 Days and Your Next Step
A site proves its value after launch day, and the first 90 days show where further effort pays off. This is the schedule we suggest:
- Month one: Watch indexing errors and product code searches in Search Console, and fix broken links.
- Month two: Simplify the forms on the most visited product and route pages, and read Russian and English enquiries by source.
- Month three: Choose the next move, such as seasonal pages, new product families or another language, based on real data.
Someone in your company also needs to own the site during this period. If nobody uploads the new certificate, updates the distributor list or forwards a Russian enquiry to the right colleague, even a carefully built site ages within months.
Before you decide, answer the three questions from the start of this guide for your own business: who your distant buyer is, which documents are ready, and how many languages you really need. Our fixed price packages are listed in the web design pricing section, and you can book a video discovery call from Samsun or from abroad through our contact page. After the call, we send a written scope and quote.
