Most people who open the website of a Sinop business have never stood on the peninsula. A seafood importer checking a salmon supplier, a family planning a weekend after visiting the old prison museum, a customer in Istanbul ordering chestnut honey: each meets the business on a screen first and makes up their mind there.
This guide is for owners in Sinop preparing a website project, and for buyers and partners abroad who work with them. We, Talha Aslan and team, follow the order in which the decisions are actually made, and each section ends in something you can use: a criterion, a checklist or a question to put to any agency you are talking to.
01Three Jobs a Website Does in Sinop's Economy
In Sinop, a website serves three very different trades at once: fish farmed at sea, visitors to the peninsula and protected regional foods. TÜİK's 2024 provincial figures show output per person rising from 8,179 to 9,779 dollars, a 19.6% increase in one year against 17.8% for Turkey as a whole. Neighboring Kastamonu grew 17.9% and Samsun 21.2%.
The sources of that growth define the brief. Figures released by Sinop's agriculture and forestry director put Turkish salmon output at 34,470 tonnes in 2025, the highest of any Turkish province, while all fish farming in Sinop added up to just 1,505 tonnes in 2018. The governor's office counted 1,617,756 visitors the same year. Each trade asks the site for something different:
- Seafood producers: Give a wholesale buyer sizes, weights, processing options and certificates without a phone call.
- Hotels and restaurants: Show a visitor choosing between the harbor, the fortress walls and the coves exactly where you are, when you are open and how to reach you.
- Regional food makers: Explain why nokul pastry or Sinop chestnut honey belongs to this province, then take the order with confidence.
Before any design work, write down which trade you belong to and roughly how much of your revenue comes from outside the province. Those two notes decide the first sentence of the home page and the order of the menu.
02Who Looks Up Sinop, and When They Do It
Searches mentioning Sinop mostly start elsewhere in Turkey or abroad and climb through the summer, whereas product queries stay steady across the year. Two people typing the same place name may expect completely different pages, so the content plan begins by separating the audiences.
- Seafood importers: Usually search by product, such as "Turkish salmon fillet supplier" or "fresh whole sea trout", often without the province name at all.
- Museum and history visitors: The restored Sinop Historical Prison opened on 5 June 2025 and received 101,286 visitors in its first 72 days; these people then look for a meal and a room nearby.
- Beach and nature visitors: Plan weekends around Hamsilos cove, Akliman beach, İnceburun and the Erfelek waterfalls, and want distances and road conditions.
- Regional food buyers: Order honey, nokul and Sinop mantı from other cities, with peaks before holidays and at the start of winter.
- Students and parents: Research rooms, dormitories and services in the center when Sinop University enrolls new students.
For each group, answer three questions: what words bring them, what they must see on the first screen and which button they should press next. Summer pages should be live in early May so search engines know them before the season starts; honey and nokul pages deserve a review at the start of autumn.
03Working With a Team Outside the Province
We run every Sinop project fully online, and in that setup you should judge a partner by how clearly they record decisions, not by how close they are. The distance between the peninsula and a big city disappears once the process is written down.
Ask every agency you consider these questions and get the answers in writing:
- Product content: Who reads your weight tables, room lists or registration certificates and turns them into page copy?
- Photography: Will you receive a detailed shot list for the sea cages, the processing hall, the rooms or the honey jars?
- Approvals: Is the design reviewed in a live browser preview where you can comment directly on each section?
- Tracking: Is there one shared screen where you can see the project status without asking?
- Proof on a phone: Which of their launched sites in a related trade can you load on your own handset right now, contact form and all?
Expect an honest answer to the last question. You can browse our published work among our reference projects; none of them is in Sinop, and our closest example on the Black Sea coast is in Zonguldak.
04Who Owns the Domain, the Server and the Logins
Everything from the domain to the map listing should be held by your company or cooperative, and the contract should say so in plain words. Fishery cooperatives and beekeeper associations elect new boards regularly, and a login tied to one member's private e-mail can vanish when that member leaves office.
On handover day, run through this list together:
- Domain: The WHOIS owner is your legal entity, and expiry reminders reach a mailbox several people read.
- Hosting panel: You hold the login, and the backup schedule and storage location are confirmed in writing.
- Source code: Code and database can be handed over in full on request, and paid components list who owns the license.
- Maps and analytics: You are the owner of Google Business Profile, Search Console and analytics; whoever builds the site gets delegated access only.
- Payments: If you sell honey or nokul online, your business signs the payment provider and courier contracts directly.
In cooperatives, keep credentials in a password vault the whole board can reach.
05From Video Call to Launch, Step by Step
We take a Sinop project through six stages, each with a named person who signs it off:
- Discovery call: On a screen shared video call we discuss your product, your season and the channel through which customers reach you.
- Written scope: Page list, language versions, shop module and delivery schedule arrive in a written proposal; work starts when you approve it.
- Material folder: Certificates, product specs and any photos you already have are uploaded to one shared drive; a shot list fills the gaps.
- Design round: You review the draft in a browser link and leave corrections directly on the relevant section.
- Build and testing: We try every form, the call button and the checkout on different handsets, including over a slow mobile connection.
- Launch and training: By screen share we show how you update the catch of the day, season dates or stock levels yourself.
Progress on every stage shows up in a shared CRM view. Should a trip bring you to Istanbul and you would rather meet face to face, our Ataşehir office is open by appointment; nothing about the online workflow changes.
Stage three affects the timeline most. Plan cage and plant photos for a calm morning with soft light, and hotel photos for after the rooms are ready for the season, so nothing has to be shot twice.
06Local Search in Sinop: Center, Coves and Districts
To show up in map results, your Google Business Profile and your website must carry an identical business name, street address and phone number. The listing card draws on the profile; the site is what turns a curious searcher into a booking or an order.
Under Google's rules, the profile should carry the name on your sign and nothing more, so no search phrases tacked on. A listing called "Guesthouse Name Sinop Seafront Cheap Rooms" invites suspension. A business that serves customers at their location, such as a boat mechanic working at the marina, may hide its street address and list a service area instead.
In a province with a central district and eight others, district content follows clear rules:
- Real service area only: Give Gerze, Boyabat, Ayancık, Türkeli or Erfelek their own content only where you actually host guests or deliver.
- No cloned pages: Copies that differ only by a district name count as doorway content in Google's eyes and earn nothing.
- Facts specific to the place: An Akliman property gives the minutes on foot to the sand; a Hamsilos guesthouse explains how steep the lane to the cove is.
- Realistic search examples: Queries like "breakfast near Sinop fortress" or "Gerze seaside guesthouse" only make sense when a real page answers them.
Along the coast road, drop the map pin exactly at your gate, because a guest who misses the turning tends to say so in a review. For review handling and district content planned as one job, look at our SEO service.
07Who Reads in English, and When German Makes Sense
The second language decision differs from business to business in Sinop: for a salmon producer it is close to essential, for a shop in the center it is usually unnecessary. Of the 1,617,756 visitors the governor's office counted in 2025, 25,212 came from abroad, so most readers of a hotel site read Turkish.
A second language pays off in these cases:
- English product catalog: For producers selling or planning to sell fresh or processed fish abroad, this is the version a buyer reads first.
- The buyer's own language: If one export market dominates, a short product and contact page in that language adds trust next to the English version.
- German: Worth considering for honey and nokul makers shipping to Turkish families in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, and for properties hosting German speaking tour groups.
Word for word translation is not enough. A foreign buyer does not know what nokul is, what a Turkish geographical indication protects or how Turkish salmon, a sea farmed rainbow trout, differs from Atlantic salmon; the copy has to explain it.
On the technical side, every language version gets its own URL and hreflang annotations that are reciprocal and self referencing. Switching language from a product page should open that same product in the other language rather than dropping the reader on the home page. You can draft the tags with our hreflang generator before you brief anyone.
08Speed, Hosting and Security on the Peninsula
Judge a Sinop website by how it behaves on a weak mobile signal down at a cove or on the waterfall path, because that is where many guests first open it.
Our yardstick is Google's Core Web Vitals, measured at the 75th percentile of visits: LCP, which tracks how fast the main image or heading renders, at 2.5 seconds or less; INP, which tracks how quickly a tap gets a response, at 200 milliseconds or less; and CLS, which tracks elements shifting around while the page builds, at 0.1 or less.
Measures we take to meet those thresholds:
- Details in plain text: Phone, address and season dates are never baked into a graphic, so they are the first thing readable on a patchy connection.
- Light sea photos: Harbor and cove panoramas ship as WebP or AVIF at the size each device actually needs.
- Deferred maps: The map widget is requested only once someone scrolls down to it.
- Backups and certificates: Certificates renew on their own, copies of the site live on separate storage, and restoring from one is rehearsed before launch.
If your quote form starts export correspondence, have your domain's SPF and DKIM records checked too, or replies may land in a buyer's spam folder.
09From Salmon Plant to Mantı House: Page Plans for Sinop
A salmon plant, a guesthouse and a beekeeper in Sinop cannot share one skeleton, because each visitor arrives with a different question. What follows are suggestions drawn from the kinds of businesses common in the province, not client stories.
- Sea cage farm and processing plant: A page per product, a size and weight table, fresh and fillet options, a cold chain explanation and a short quote form. Our farm business website page covers the producer structure in more depth.
- Stays near the fortress and the coves: Walking distance to the prison museum, the harbor or the beach on the first screen, then rooms, season dates and a one tap call button. Details are on our hotel website page.
- Fish restaurant and mantı house: A "today on the counter" box staff can edit from a phone, the menu, opening hours and directions. Our restaurant website page goes further.
- Beekeeper and nokul baker: Product pages naming the maker, the harvest or baking period and the registration, plus storage advice and delivery times.
- Nature route business: For places near the Erfelek waterfalls or İnceburun, walking times, seasonal road conditions and parking.
The off season is part of the plan too. A guesthouse that closes in winter should keep its page online with the reopening date and an early request form; the URL holds on to what it has earned in search, and the first summer requests start arriving in January.
10Data Protection, Consent and Online Sales Rules
Have the legal pages finished before go live, written for the data your site really collects, the cookies it really sets and the sales it really makes.
- KVKK information notice: Any quote, booking or order form gathers personal data, which triggers the information duty in Article 10 of Law No. 6698 on that very screen; link the notice right under the form.
- Cookie notice: List the analytics and advertising tags you actually run. When you sell into the European Union, those tags wait for the visitor's explicit opt in.
- Distance selling: A honey or nokul shop presents the pre contract information, the sales contract, shipping conditions and the withdrawal right before the buyer pays.
- Perishable goods: Turkish rules contain an exception to the withdrawal right for goods that spoil quickly; confirm with your adviser whether your product falls under it and state the result clearly.
- Registration wording: Use the name and logo of a geographical indication or designation of origin exactly as the registration document and the holder's rules allow.
Your lawyer or accountant signs off the wording; our part is wiring each text to the relevant form and making it easy to find. Cart, checkout and refund flows are planned separately as part of our e-commerce service.
11Moving to a New Site Without Losing Search Traffic
When an older site is rebuilt, the real danger is URLs that search engines know quietly disappearing. If an old guesthouse page ranks for "Hamsilos guesthouse", the new site needs a page that serves the same intent at a mapped address.
We follow this order:
- URL inventory: We export every existing URL and flag the ones with Search Console clicks or links from other sites.
- Mapping table: Every old room, product or menu URL is paired with the new page covering the same topic; there are no blanket redirects to the start page.
- Permanent redirects: The pairs go live as 301 redirects, signalling that the change of address is final.
- Post launch monitoring: For several weeks after the switch we read the 404 logs and add any URL that slipped through.
Hiding a work in progress site with robots.txt alone is a frequent half measure. Google never sees the noindex on a URL it is not allowed to crawl, so a page you want out of the index must stay crawlable and carry noindex. A password on the development copy is the sturdier option.
QR codes on honey labels, menus or fish crates that point to old addresses belong in the inventory too. While you build the mapping table, our redirect mapping tool shows which old URLs are still unassigned.
12Six Recurring Mistakes on Sinop Websites
The errors that keep turning up on Sinop websites usually come from leaving two readers out: the buyer who lives elsewhere and the guest who arrives after the season closes. Six of them, with what to do instead:
- A single gallery for the whole range: Rather than stacking salmon, trout and processed lines on one photo page, give every product a page and a table of sizes, weights and packing.
- Relying on social media alone: Instead of keeping room and menu details only in posts, build permanent pages; a social feed disappears from search results.
- Showing the registration only as a logo: Instead of a badge in the corner, state the type of registration, its year and what it protects in the product copy.
- Taking the site down in winter: Instead of removing pages after the season, show the reopening date, winter views and an early request form.
- Vague location claims: Instead of "close to the center", state how many minutes you are on foot from the fortress, the harbor or the cove.
- Turkish forms on English pages: Instead of linking an English page to a Turkish quote form, give each language version a short form in its own language.
13What Drives the Budget, Without Numbers
Scope sets the budget of a web design Sinop project, not location; a guesthouse in Gerze and a company in Istanbul choose from the same packages. The decisions that grow a proposal are these:
- Product and document depth: A catalog with dozens of size and processing options, a certificate archive and technical sheets takes much longer to prepare than a small brochure site.
- Number of languages: Every added language brings rewritten copy and its own configuration.
- Online shop: Card payments, courier integration, stock control and contract texts sit on top of the site almost like a second project.
- Booking integration: Connecting a platform calendar or matching the request form to availability takes extra development.
- Visual material: You organize local photography; preparing the shot list and processing the files is part of the scope.
Write your wishes in two columns, phase one and phase two. A beekeeper could open with a Turkish shop and a few jar sizes, then decide on German after looking at the first harvest's orders.
14The First 90 Days and Your Next Step
The day the site opens is day one of measurement, and three months of data tell you where the next effort belongs. For a Sinop business the calendar runs like this:
- Month one: We review the queries the site appears for, record form sends, phone taps and WhatsApp clicks as distinct events, and repair whatever misbehaves.
- Month two: Popular product and room pages get questions and answers and fresh photos, and any form field visitors abandon is simplified.
- Month three: Content is prepared for the coming season: cove and museum pages for summer, honey and nokul pages for winter, each updated on time.
Do not judge by one number. For a salmon producer, what matters is which country and which product page each quote request came from; for a guesthouse, how often the call button was pressed and in which month.
When you are ready to decide, write down four answers: which city or country your customers are in, which months they cluster in, whether they phone or fill in forms, and how many languages the site needs. With those on paper, the right scope for your Sinop business largely defines itself. See what each package includes in our pricing section, then pick a video call slot on our contact page; afterwards we e-mail you the proposed page structure and our quote.
