This guide is for companies and founders in Recklinghausen who work partly or fully in English: subsidiaries of foreign groups, suppliers selling to international buyers, employers recruiting graduates, guesthouses hosting festival visitors and expats who have opened a practice or shop. Good web design Recklinghausen businesses can rely on has to satisfy German customers, German law and English readers at the same time, and the hard decisions come long before anyone opens a design tool.
We, Talha Aslan and team, follow the sequence in which these choices land on an owner's desk. Every section ends with something concrete: a test to run today, a decision to record or a question for the agencies on your shortlist.
01The job a website does in Recklinghausen's economy
In Recklinghausen a website first has to explain, in German and within seconds, what you offer and to whom, because the local market is broad and service heavy. Destatis counted 115,344 residents on 31 December 2024. The city reports that about two thirds of its jobs are in services and that 44,027 people were in employment subject to social insurance in January 2023.
Alongside retail, banks and insurers, the city names metalworking, electrical engineering, textiles and plastics as part of its economic base. It is also the seat of Kreis Recklinghausen, a district of around 610,000 people in ten towns. For an international firm that mix suggests a short list of possible jobs for the site:
- Win German customers: clear German service pages with a phone number people can tap, aimed at clients from the city and the surrounding district.
- Reassure foreign headquarters or buyers: English pages that show capabilities, certifications and a named contact, readable without a call.
- Hire: roles described for graduates in chemistry, logistics, business law or industrial engineering, with an application that works on a phone.
- Host guests: rooms, menus and booking paths for audiences who arrive for the Ruhrfestspiele.
Pick one or two of these as the primary job and write them down. That note decides what fills the first screen on a phone and which actions you measure after launch.
02Search intent in Recklinghausen, district by district
People in Recklinghausen search in a few predictable ways, and each pattern needs a different kind of page. Most local searches are typed in German, even by residents who speak English at work.
- District plus service: queries such as "Physiotherapie Stuckenbusch", "Schlüsseldienst Berghausen" or "Steuerberatung Altstadt". Map results usually appear first, so your page needs an address, hours and a tappable number.
- Neighboring towns: buyers in Marl, Herten, Datteln or Haltern am See often type their own town name even when they would happily drive into Recklinghausen.
- English language searches: newcomers look for "English speaking dentist Recklinghausen" or "apartment Recklinghausen furnished", usually on a phone and often from a nearby city.
- Seasonal intent: from 1 May, when the Ruhrfestspiele begin, through mid June, plus the Palmsonntagskirmes in spring, visitors look for food, parking and places to stay.
Run a fifteen minute test before you brief anyone. Search your five main terms on a phone in German, in English and with a neighboring town added, and note whether maps, ads, directories or company sites appear first.
A search for web design Recklinghausen mostly returns agencies from the district. Whether a local address matters for your project is the subject of the next section; the questions there apply to any web design Recklinghausen offer you collect.
03Hiring a web team outside Germany without the usual risks
Working with a team abroad goes well when every agreement is in writing and every draft can be opened by you at any time. Everyone on our team works from Istanbul, so a project in Germany runs on video calls, shared documents and preview links and nothing else. Istanbul is one hour ahead of Germany in summer and two in winter, so German mornings overlap comfortably.
Put the same questions to every candidate, whether they work from Recklinghausen, Düsseldorf or another country:
- Meeting notes: Will a short written recap of what was decided and what is still open reach you within a day of each call?
- Scope: Does the proposal list pages, languages, features, rounds of revisions and what is explicitly excluded?
- Staging access: Is there a password protected test address you can open on your own phone at any hour?
- German copy: Which person drafts or proofreads the German pages and keeps the formal Sie consistent?
- Cover: Who replies when your main contact is ill or on holiday, and how fast?
Check portfolios the way a customer would: open three live sites on your phone, send a form, tap the number. Our own work so far is in Türkiye and is linked on the references page; judge it with exactly the same test you apply to everyone else.
04Owning your domain, hosting, code and accounts
Everything your site depends on should be registered to your company before work starts. If it is registered to the agency instead, changing provider later depends on their cooperation, and the risk is highest for subsidiaries whose staff change often.
- Domain: the .de name belongs to the German entity, booked with a registrar of your choosing; a general inbox as contact means renewal reminders still arrive after people leave.
- Hosting: your own contract and login with a provider running EU data centers, including DNS access, which controls where the domain sends web and mail traffic.
- Code and licenses: written usage rights, a delivered copy of the source, and every purchased theme, font or photo licensed to your company.
- Google accounts: Search Console, GA4 and the Business Profile sit in a company account; agencies get user access you can revoke.
Under Art. 28 GDPR (DSGVO in German), you need a data processing agreement with the host and with every tool that handles visitor data, such as a booking system.
Finish with a handover sheet listing every login, every role and where each contract is stored. Ask for a temporary admin login to the hosting panel before launch and sign in yourself to confirm it works.
05Our project process in six steps, all online
A project for a Recklinghausen business runs through six steps, and each one needs your sign off before the next begins. We schedule calls before your opening hours or in a quiet afternoon slot, and the small time difference keeps the whole German morning available.
- Kickoff call: goals, German and English audiences, rivals in the district and what material exists; afterwards you get the page plan and responsibilities in writing.
- Structure and copy: content comes before visuals. You provide facts, your own photos and the questions customers keep asking at the counter or on the phone.
- Design: the home page and one sample inner page, presented on a call and shared as a link you can revisit; the remaining pages follow your approval.
- Build: coding behind a password, with legal pages, consent banner, forms and tracking set up from the start.
- Testing: every form, the load time, a range of popular phones and each language version pass a checklist before we point the domain to the new site.
- Launch and training: a weekday morning switch, a test of every contact route and a short session for the people who will update hours and offers.
None of these steps requires a meeting in person. Should business bring you to Istanbul, the kickoff or a design review can also happen in person at our office in Ataşehir.
06Local search in Recklinghausen: profile, districts and directories
For searches with a district name or "near me", the Google Business Profile carries most of the weight, while the website supplies the detail that convinces. Both must show identical data, down to the area code 02361 and the spelling of the street.
- Business name: exactly the name on your sign and invoices. Adding phrases such as "English Dentist Recklinghausen" to the name breaks Google's guidelines.
- Storefront or service area: a shop shows its address; a cleaning or IT support firm that visits clients across the district may hide it and list towns as its service area.
- German directories: Gelbe Seiten, Das Örtliche and one portal for your trade, each with the same name, address and phone format.
- Reviews: ask finished clients for an honest review through a short link, never in exchange for a discount, and answer criticism calmly.
Separate pages for districts or neighboring towns only make sense where you have something real to show, such as a second branch in Hillerheide or completed jobs in Dorsten. Pages where only the place name changes count as doorway pages under Google's spam policies.
If you would rather hand over profile care, content updates and reporting, our search engine optimization service covers it. Whatever you choose, the profile itself must stay owned by your company.
07Languages: German first, English with a purpose
German stays the main version for almost every business in Recklinghausen, because customers, landlords, banks and authorities expect it and the Impressum and privacy policy are built on it. Add English when you can say exactly who will read it and when a colleague will reply to English inquiries.
- Recruiting: chemistry, logistics and engineering employers reach international graduates and specialists with English role descriptions.
- Buyers and headquarters: suppliers in metalworking, electrical engineering or plastics show capabilities and certificates to purchasing teams abroad.
- Visitors: hosts and restaurants welcome Ruhrfestspiele audiences who do not read German menus with ease.
- Turkish as a third option: insurance, property and care services with Turkish speaking clients may add a Turkish version as well.
Give English its own URLs, for instance an en folder, instead of a translation widget; Google does not index widget output as a version of its own. hreflang tags tie the versions together; every page must point to the others and to itself. Our multilingual website page explains how we structure this.
Often a compact English version is enough: home, services, directions and contact, with full detail in German.
08Speed, hosting and security in daily operation
Speed matters most when people search on the move, for instance between the Festspielhaus and the old town before a performance. Google measures it through the Core Web Vitals and rates a page as good when at least three quarters of visits stay within the limits.
- LCP (largest contentful paint): how long the biggest visible element, usually a hero image, takes to load; the target is 2.5 seconds or less.
- INP (interaction to next paint): how quickly the page reacts to a tap; the target is 200 milliseconds or less.
- CLS (cumulative layout shift): how much content jumps while loading; the target is 0.1 or less.
Write these targets into the contract and ask for a measurement report before launch. For a quick look at your current site, our mobile friendly test helps; run it over mobile data rather than the office network.
A server in Germany or elsewhere in the EU keeps the privacy policy simpler. Fonts should be served from that server too: on 20 January 2022 the Munich Regional Court (LG München I) awarded damages because a site loaded Google Fonts from Google's servers without consent.
Security is a set of routines with a named owner: certificates that renew themselves, updates tested on staging first, nightly backups stored separately with one rehearsed restore, and logins protected by a second factor. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC as well, so that quotes sent by email reach the inbox.
09Sector examples that fit Recklinghausen
Your sector decides which pages you need far more than your headcount does. The patterns below follow the industries the city itself lists; they describe types of business, not clients of ours.
- Industrial suppliers: metalworking, electrical or plastics firms need one page per process with machinery, materials, certificates and an inquiry form that accepts drawings, in German and English.
- Insurance and property offices: advisers with photos, plain pages for each line of cover or property type and a callback form; see our insurance agency website page for a full structure.
- Restaurants, cafés and guesthouses: menus as text, extended evening hours during the festival, reservations and a short English summary; the restaurant website page lists further building blocks.
- Lab and logistics employers: careers pages with tasks, shift patterns and location, plus an application without a mandatory cover letter that graduates can finish on a phone.
Choose the closest pattern and add every question your customers ask repeatedly. Those questions become the inner pages people actually find.
10German legal basics for business websites
Several German rules shape menus, forms and scripts, so they belong in the first briefing rather than in launch week. This overview is not legal advice; have the final texts reviewed by a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt).
- Impressum: § 5 DDG, the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz that replaced the TMG on 14 May 2024, requires among other things the name, a postal address, a fast contact route including email and, for a GmbH, the managing directors and commercial register number.
- Privacy policy: contact forms, application uploads and bookings all process personal data, and the GDPR policy has to describe each of them and be linked from every page.
- Consent: under § 25 TDDDG, analytics, ad pixels and embedded maps may only run once the visitor agrees. For measurement and personalized advertising, Google also requires consent mode for users in the European Economic Area.
- Accessibility: since 28 June 2025 the BFSG applies to many consumer facing online shops and services; micro businesses offering services are exempt. Check whether it covers you.
- Online shops: § 312j BGB requires an order button that states the obligation to pay, such as "zahlungspflichtig bestellen", and consumers must receive withdrawal information.
When we handle e-commerce development, checkout wording, withdrawal pages and legal links are part of the first draft. Be wary of template packages that promise complete legal safety without asking what you sell.
11Relaunching without losing your rankings
A new site keeps its visibility as long as every old URL that receives visits or links leads cleanly to its successor. Older sites in the city frequently own pages that have drawn district or service searches for a long time; a rebuild without a plan loses those first.
- Inventory: collect all URLs from the old sitemap, Search Console and a crawler run into one spreadsheet, adding clicks and inbound links.
- Mapping: decide for each page whether it stays, merges or goes, and assign a new URL; our redirect mapping tool speeds up the matching.
- Protecting staging: lock it with a password rather than robots.txt; a page blocked there cannot be crawled, so Google never reads its noindex.
- Redirects: permanent 301 redirects straight to the target, with no chains and never a blanket redirect to the home page.
- Monitoring: submit the new sitemap, watch 404 errors and the indexing report for several weeks, and update the URL in your profile and directories.
Moving to a new domain at the same time? Keep renewing the old one, redirect it, and file the move with the Search Console change of address tool. Hospitality businesses should not go live just before the festival opens.
12Common mistakes on Recklinghausen sites and what works better
What puts visitors off is rarely the look; more often it is stale information and small technical slips. Six patterns that appear easily in this city, each with a better alternative:
- English only: an international subsidiary publishes in English and wonders why local inquiries stay low. Better: German as the main version, English for the audiences who need it.
- Normal hours during the festival: the café stays open late but the site says otherwise. Better: special hours kept in one place that feeds both the website and the Business Profile.
- Ten cloned town pages: one page per town in the district with identical text. Better: name the service area on your service pages and describe only real locations separately.
- Applications by post or PDF only: graduates give up on their phones. Better: a short form with an upload field and a named contact.
- Impressum still citing the TMG: a sign nobody has checked since 2024. Better: review the details under § 5 DDG whenever the company or register entry changes.
- Stock skyline photos: everyone knows the town hall, nobody knows your workshop. Better: real pictures of your team, rooms and work.
13What drives the budget, without a price list
Where your company is based has no effect on the calculation: a quote for web design Recklinghausen businesses request depends on scope, languages and features, not on the postcode. These factors move the effort most:
- Page types: five service pages built from one template take less work than three pages that each need their own layout, such as product, job and booking.
- Language versions: each extra language needs coordination and someone who writes or reviews the copy.
- Features: online booking, a shop, application uploads or a link to your ERP or CRM system.
- Material: whether usable text and images exist or everything has to be written and photographed from scratch.
- Legacy URLs: how many old addresses need mapping and redirecting during a relaunch.
Good preparation saves more than any discount: finished service descriptions, your own photos, collected customer questions and a single person authorized to approve drafts shorten every revision loop.
What should not drive the budget are animations without a purpose and plugins for features nobody uses. Compare each line of a proposal with the primary jobs you wrote down at the start; anything that serves none of them can wait for a later phase.
14Your first 90 days and the next step
Whether a web design Recklinghausen project has done its job shows in the first three months after launch, provided each month has a clear task. A plan can look like this:
- Month one: confirm that taps on the phone number, form submissions and bookings appear in GA4 as key events once consent is given, and review the Search Console page indexing report.
- Month two: see which terms, districts and neighboring towns your pages appear for, in German and English, sharpen titles and ask the first clients for reviews.
- Month three: turn recurring inquiries into new answers on the site, check how each language performs and get hours and offers ready ahead of the next festival.
A compact single language site often fits a fixed price package listed in our pricing overview. Bilingual sites, shops and relaunches are quoted individually; a short note via our contact form is enough, after which we arrange a video call and put scope and price in writing.
Before that call, have three things ready: your list of primary jobs, the five search terms from your phone test and the name of whoever manages the domain and hosting today. With those in hand, a first conversation about web design Recklinghausen turns into a concrete plan quickly.
