This guide is for companies in Mönchengladbach that work in English at least part of the time: textile mills selling to buyers abroad, logistics operators with international clients, subsidiaries with foreign owners, and founders who moved to the Lower Rhine for a job or a degree. A web design Mönchengladbach project therefore has to satisfy two audiences at once: German customers and authorities who expect German rules, and partners abroad who read in English.
Talha Aslan and team have arranged the sections in the order the decisions tend to surface during a project. Each one gives you something to check, decide or ask any agency you are comparing.
01The jobs a site does in Mönchengladbach's economy
A company site in Mönchengladbach has to work for a city that is mid sized by population but busy as an industrial and logistics location, so it usually serves business buyers and local customers with different pages. Destatis counted 267,213 residents on 31 December 2024. IT.NRW puts the city's 2023 GDP at 10,897 million euros, a nominal increase of 6.9 percent on 2022, compared with 6.2 percent in neighboring Krefeld and 7.7 percent in Düsseldorf.
Those figures describe a location with its own economic weight between the state capital and the Dutch border. Your competitors are spread across the whole Lower Rhine region, and a buyer in Milan or Rotterdam will compare your site with suppliers from several countries before writing to anyone.
Settle in writing, before design starts, the one or two jobs your site must do. Locally they tend to be:
- Sample and trade inquiries: for fabric producers and fashion labels whose customers are buyers rather than consumers.
- Freight quotes and driver applications: for haulage and warehousing firms around Regiopark and the A61.
- Credibility for a subsidiary: for German branches of foreign groups that need a local face, German legal pages and an English version for head office.
- Calls and bookings: for clinics, salons, trades and restaurants whose customers live in a few districts.
The first job gets the first screen on a phone. The second shapes the menu.
02Who searches for what in and around Mönchengladbach
Searches that reach Mönchengladbach businesses fall into four groups, and each group needs a different type of page. Because the city grew from two centers, the old town around the Abteiberg hill and Rheydt, many residents search by district rather than by city name.
- District and proximity: German queries such as "Zahnarzt Rheydt" or "Bäckerei in der Nähe", where map listings dominate and your page needs an address, hours and a phone number people can tap.
- Trade terms: buyers abroad type "woven fabric manufacturer Germany" or "contract logistics Lower Rhine"; these call for detailed service and product pages with capacities, certificates and named contacts.
- Match days: Borussia's stadium holds 54,042 spectators for Bundesliga games, and visitors search for parking, food and rooms, often on the day itself.
- Campus life: Hochschule Niederrhein has 13,363 students across its Krefeld and Mönchengladbach sites, and many international students search in English for rooms, tutoring, print shops and lunch.
On your phone, enter your five most important terms once in German and once in English, note what tops each results page (maps, directories, ads or company sites), and you will see where the website matters most and where your business profile carries more weight.
Run the same test for "web design Mönchengladbach" when you compare agencies; the ranking tells you about their marketing, not about their process.
03Choosing a partner outside Germany
Working with an agency outside Germany is sound when the process is written, visible and easy to follow; distance is rarely the real risk. Our team is based in Istanbul and handles German projects entirely online. Our clocks run one hour ahead of German time in summer and two in winter, which leaves most of the German business day shared.
Put the same questions to every agency, wherever it sits, and ask for written answers:
- Meeting notes: After each video call, do you receive a written list of decisions and open items?
- Scope: Does the quote list pages, languages, features, revision rounds and explicit exclusions?
- Preview: Can you open the work in progress yourself on a protected test address instead of receiving screenshots?
- German copy: Who writes or reviews the German pages, and who checks that they use the formal Sie throughout?
- Backup contact: Who answers when your usual contact is on leave?
Test references live rather than as images: open three sites on your phone, submit a form and tap the phone number. Our completed work so far is in Türkiye, including a logistics company and a football club; it is listed with addresses on our references page, and you can run exactly that test on it.
04Who should own the domain, server, source code and logins
Every account your website relies on should be held by your company before development starts. Otherwise switching providers later turns into a negotiation, and in an outage you may lack the one login you need.
- Domain: Register the .de address through a registrar you choose, in the company's name, with a shared mailbox such as info as the contact and auto renewal switched on.
- Hosting: a contract with a data center in the EU, in your name, with your own access to DNS management, the settings that connect domain, website and e-mail.
- Code and licenses: usage rights and source code handover written into the contract, and licenses for fonts, images and plugins held by you.
- Google services: the Business Profile, GA4 and Search Console are owned by a company login; agencies are added as users you can remove whenever you like.
Foreign owned companies should settle one detail early: whether the .de domain sits with the German entity or with the group. Either works, but the Impressum must name the German entity that runs the site, so legal and technical ownership should match.
Hosts, form services and newsletter tools process visitor data on your behalf, so each needs a processor contract as Art. 28 of the GDPR (DSGVO in German) requires. Keep those agreements and a list of every login in one place that at least two people in the company can reach.
05Six stages from kickoff to launch, all on screen
A Mönchengladbach project with us runs in six stages, each one approved by you, with progress visible in our CRM at any time. Calls are scheduled within German business hours, and we can hold them in English or German.
- Kickoff call: audiences, competitors on the Lower Rhine, existing content and approvals; you receive a written page list and a responsibility list.
- Content plan: structure and copy come before visuals. You supply facts, product data and the questions customers really ask.
- Design: a home page draft plus one representative inner page, such as a collection or a service, as a clickable preview; the remaining templates follow after sign off.
- Build: development on a protected staging site with legal pages, cookie consent, forms and analytics.
- Testing: forms, load times, display on common phones and every language version are checked before the domain is switched.
- Launch and training: go live on a weekday morning, never on a Friday, then a training session for everyone who will edit content.
None of these stages requires travel. If you are in Istanbul anyway, we are glad to hold the kickoff or the design review in our Ataşehir office.
06Local search: Business Profile, districts and neighbors
For district and "near me" searches, the Google Business Profile makes the first impression and the website supplies the detail behind it. Both must show identical information, down to how the street name is spelled.
- Business name: exactly as it appears on your sign and invoices. Adding "Physiotherapy Wickrath" to the name breaks Google's guidelines.
- Address or service area: shops and clinics show their address; a roofer from Hardt who only works at customers' homes may hide it and list areas such as Eicken, Venn or Lürrip.
- Directories: Das Örtliche, Gelbe Seiten, 11880 and sector portals, all carrying contact details identical to the site.
- Reviews: ask after each completed job with a direct link, offer nothing in return, and keep every reply factual.
A separate district page only makes sense when something real happens there: a second branch in Odenkirchen, a warehouse at Regiopark, a team based in Giesenkirchen. Pages where only the place name changes count as doorway pages under Google's spam policies.
Many firms also work in Korschenbroich, Jüchen, Viersen or Willich, and some as far as the state capital; if Düsseldorf matters to you, our page on web design in Düsseldorf covers that market. Mention these towns on your service pages instead of cloning pages. Ongoing work on profile and content is part of our SEO service if you want it.
07Languages: German first, then English, Dutch or Turkish
German stays the main language of any web design Mönchengladbach project, because customers, authorities and banks expect it and the Impressum and privacy policy are written for German law. A second language earns its place when you can name the group that reads it and someone in the company can answer inquiries in it.
- English: for mills and labels with buyers abroad, logistics firms with international shippers, companies hiring staff who do not yet speak German, and services aimed at the university campus.
- Dutch: the border is close, so trades, specialist retailers and service firms with customers from the Venlo or Roermond area can test a short Dutch version of their key pages.
- Turkish: for clinics, driving schools, insurance brokers, travel agencies or grocers whose regular customers prefer Turkish.
Each language gets its own URLs, for example in its own folder, rather than a translation widget that Google does not index as a separate version. hreflang annotations label the language of each URL for Google; the references must be mutual, and each version also lists itself. Our hreflang generator writes those lines for you.
Do not translate everything. For a fabric producer, the English site can often be limited to company profile, collection overview, spec sheets and contact.
08Fast fabric pages, EU servers and safe logins
Speed matters twice over in Mönchengladbach: collection pages carry many large images, and local customers search almost entirely on phones. Google's yardstick is Core Web Vitals, judged at the 75th percentile of real visits:
- LCP: the largest visible element, often a collection hero image, appears within 2.5 seconds.
- INP: a tap, for example on a color filter, gets a visible response within 200 milliseconds.
- CLS: the score for content jumping around while loading stays at 0.1 or below.
For fabric photography, that means modern formats such as WebP or AVIF, several sizes per image and a zoom view that loads only when someone asks for it. A server in a German or other EU data center keeps response times short and simplifies data protection.
Serve font files from your own hosting. In a ruling of 20 January 2022, the regional court LG München I ordered a site operator to pay damages after the site fetched typefaces directly from Google without consent and thereby disclosed a visitor's IP address.
Security needs four routines with a named owner: HTTPS with automatic certificate renewal, updates tested on staging first, daily backups stored in a second location, and personal logins with two factor authentication. Also check the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records of your domain so quotes and freight confirmations do not land in spam folders abroad.
09Sector examples from fabric mills to freight
In Mönchengladbach, your sector decides which pages you need more than your company size does. These patterns are general examples, not client stories.
- Mills and textile finishers: the city's development agency WFMG lists textile, fashion, textile machinery and textile logistics firms that are still based here. Buyers need article pages with composition, weight per square meter and care details, downloadable spec sheets and a sample request form; our page on the catalogue website shows how to structure that.
- Logistics operators: WFMG reports more than 2,500 people working at Zalando's site at Regiopark alone, which makes hiring drivers and warehouse staff competitive. A careers page with shift patterns and a short application sits next to service area and fleet details; see websites for logistics companies.
- Foreign owned subsidiaries: a German site for customers and authorities, an English mirror of the key pages for head office and partners, and a contact page naming the local managing director.
- Fashion labels: lookbooks, size charts and material details, plus pages on origin and production that connect to the city's textile history.
Then add answers to the questions your customers ask repeatedly.
10German legal duties every site has to cover
German legal duties shape the page structure and the technical setup, so they belong in the first plan rather than the last week before launch. Ask a German Rechtsanwalt to review the wording; the list below is orientation, not legal advice.
- Impressum under § 5 DDG: name, address, legal form and authorized representatives, e-mail, commercial register entry and VAT ID if you have one. Regulated professions add their chamber, legal job title with the granting state and their professional rules.
- Privacy policy: under the GDPR for every processing of personal data, including sample request and job application forms.
- Consent under § 25 TDDDG: analytics, third party maps and ad pixels only start after consent; for Google measurement and personalized advertising, Google additionally requires consent mode for EEA visitors.
- Accessibility: since 28 June 2025 the BFSG has obliged a wide range of shops and digital services aimed at consumers; micro enterprises that provide services fall outside it. Have someone confirm whether your offer is covered.
- Checkout: an online shop needs an order button labeled under § 312j BGB, for example "zahlungspflichtig bestellen", and withdrawal information for consumers.
A mill selling only to trade customers faces partly different rules than a fashion shop; ask a lawyer to confirm where that line runs for you. When we handle e-commerce development, the mandatory pages and the German checkout flow are part of the base build.
11Relaunching without losing search visibility
A new site keeps its rankings when every previously visited or linked address redirects permanently to its new counterpart. Long established textile and trade firms often have pages that have ranked for technical terms for years, and those are the first to vanish in a relaunch without a plan.
- Inventory: export every URL from the sitemap, Search Console and a crawl, with clicks, impressions and inbound links.
- Mapping: decide for each old page whether it stays, merges with another or goes, and assign its new address; our redirect mapping tool speeds up the matching.
- Protect staging: use a password, not robots.txt, because Google cannot crawl a page blocked there and therefore never sees its noindex.
- Redirect: 301 redirects straight to the target, without chains and never in bulk to the home page.
- Monitor: submit the new sitemap, watch error pages and indexing for several weeks, and update links in your profile and directories.
If the domain changes too, keep the old one permanently and use the change of address tool in Search Console. Avoid launching in the weeks before an order season or trade fair when buyers are reviewing your collection.
12Common mistakes on Mönchengladbach websites
Most weaknesses on local sites come from missing information and careless details rather than design. Here are six typical ones, each with a better approach:
- The collection as one large PDF: hard to read on a phone and nearly invisible to search engines. Better: article pages with real text, with the PDF as an optional download.
- English through a translation widget: not indexed as its own version, and buyers notice the awkward phrasing. Better: a few carefully edited English pages with hreflang.
- An English site with no German legal pages: a subsidiary that launches in English first still needs an Impressum and a privacy policy that meet German law. Better: plan the German legal layer before any language goes live.
- Job ads posted as images: not searchable and unreadable on small screens. Better: a careers page with text, shift times and a form that takes two minutes.
- A cookie banner that tracks anyway: pixels fire before consent. Better: load scripts only after consent and verify it in the browser's developer tools.
- Only the city name as location: customers in Rheydt or Wickrath cannot tell whether you serve them. Better: name the districts and neighboring towns you actually cover.
13What drives the effort and the budget
Being based in Mönchengladbach does not change the calculation; for web design Mönchengladbach companies pay for scope, languages and features, not for a postcode. These factors move the effort most:
- Templates: the number of distinct page types, such as article, collection, service and vacancy, weighs more than the number of pages.
- Product data: whether articles are entered by hand or imported from an ERP or inventory system.
- Languages: each version needs its own review and a clear answer to who writes or checks the copy.
- Features: shop, trade login area, sample basket, applicant management or CRM integration.
- Images: existing photos or new shoots of fabrics, warehouse and team.
- Relaunch: how many old URLs need mapping and redirecting.
Preparation lowers the effort most: article data in a spreadsheet, your own photos and a list of frequent customer questions save entire revision rounds. Question any line in a quote that serves none of the jobs from the first section.
14After launch: a 90 day plan and how to start
You will know whether the new site works within twelve weeks of going live, as long as each month has a measurable goal. A plan for a web design Mönchengladbach project could look like this:
- Month one: check that calls, forms and sample requests arrive in GA4 as key events, with consent, and review Search Console for indexing errors.
- Month two: look at which terms, languages and districts your pages appear for, sharpen titles and collect first reviews, including after a home match weekend.
- Month three: add answers to recurring questions, compare the language versions and decide whether time or budget goes next into content, the profile or ads.
A single language site with a clear scope often fits a package from our pricing overview; multilingual sites, shops and relaunches get an individual quote. Write to us through the contact form; we arrange a video call and then send a scope document with our offer.
Bring three things to the first call: the main job of your site, your five most important search terms in each language, and who currently manages the domain and accounts. With those, a web design Mönchengladbach inquiry turns into a concrete plan quickly.
