This guide is for companies in Leverkusen that need a website someone outside the building will actually trust: international subsidiaries and specialist firms around Chempark, contractors who maintain plants, hauliers working the A1 and A3, consultancies serving corporate clients, and founders who moved here for a role in chemistry or pharma. Good web design Leverkusen companies can rely on starts with decisions about audience, language, legal pages and ownership, long before anyone picks a color.
We, Talha Aslan and team, have arranged those decisions in the order they come up in a real project. Every section gives you something concrete to check, decide or put to an agency as a question.
01What a Website Must Do in Leverkusen's Economy
In Leverkusen a website first has to pass a procurement check, and only then win the local customer. IT.NRW figures show that production industries generated 43.5% of the city's gross value added in 2023, against 17.2% in Cologne and 12.9% in Düsseldorf. That profile changes who reads your site.
Chempark covers 480 hectares, and the city reports around 35,000 people working for companies on the site. Bayer has had its headquarters here since 1912. With 168,581 residents at the end of 2024 according to Destatis, Leverkusen combines a global chemical cluster with the scale of a mid sized town where people still look for a plumber in their own district.
Before any design work, write down which job the site does first:
- Supplier qualification: certificates, plant types served and safety records ready before a buyer's first call.
- Group communication: an English presence that colleagues in other countries can share internally without translating.
- Local demand: calls, bookings and directions for people in Wiesdorf, Opladen or Schlebusch.
- Hiring: technical and lab roles explained clearly enough that a candidate applies from a phone.
Whatever ranks first gets the first screen on mobile and the first item in the menu.
02Search Intent in Leverkusen: Buyers, Residents and Match Days
Searches in Leverkusen come from at least four different intentions, and each needs its own type of page. Two people typing similar words may be building a supplier shortlist or looking for someone to fix a leak tonight.
- Procurement: "industrial cleaning Leverkusen", "Gerüstbau Chempark" or "Isolierung Industrie NRW", usually typed at a desk by someone who reads long pages and downloads documents.
- Neighborhood: "Steuerberater Opladen", "Zahnarzt Schlebusch" or "English speaking doctor Leverkusen", mostly on a phone and answered by map results.
- Events: on home match days at the BayArena, visitors search for restaurants, parking and taxis in a city many of them do not know.
- Careers: around 800 students study chemistry focused programs at TH Köln's Campus Leverkusen in the Neue Bahnstadt Opladen, and many look for internships and working student jobs nearby.
Run a simple test before planning content. Search for your five most important services on a phone, once with a district name and once with "Leverkusen", in both English and German. Note what fills the first screen: maps, directories, competitors or job boards.
The result tells you which services deserve their own page and which are covered by a Google Business Profile. That test is where the content plan for a web design Leverkusen project should begin.
03Working With a Partner Outside Germany
A partner without a German office works well when the process is written down, visible and easy to reach; distance itself is rarely the problem. Talha Aslan and team work from Istanbul, and we have no address, representative or staff in Germany. Projects for Leverkusen run fully online, and since Türkiye is one hour ahead of Germany in summer and two hours in winter, working days overlap for most of the day.
Ask every agency you consider the same questions and get the answers in writing:
- Scope: Which pages, languages and forms are included, listed page by page?
- Preview: Will I see the site on a real address and test it on my own phone before launch?
- Language quality: Who writes and who checks the German text? Is any machine translation published unedited?
- Meetings: Can calls be set around shift changes or plant shutdown schedules?
- Tracking: Where can I see which tasks are done and which are waiting on me?
With us, progress is visible in our CRM and every approval stays on record. For a plant manager who spends half the day on site, that is more reliable than remembering what was agreed on a call.
04Ownership and Access: Domain, Hosting, Code, Accounts
Every part of the website should be registered to your company, with the agency acting only as an authorized user. This matters especially for subsidiaries, where a domain registered by a former employee or a local contractor can block a rebrand or an audit years later.
Keep this checklist and confirm each item on handover day:
- Domain: the .de address registered through a DENIC member registrar in your company's name, with login details held by you.
- Hosting: a data center inside the EU, a contract in your name or transferable to you, and a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR.
- Code and content: a full copy of files and database, plus a written statement that the rights to use them are yours.
- Accounts: Google Business Profile, Search Console and Analytics with your company as owner and the agency as manager.
- E-mail: access to the mailbox administration and a record of the SPF, DKIM and DMARC entries for your domain.
Ask about this at quote stage, not after launch. With us, the first year of hosting is included, and you can move files and database to another provider whenever you choose.
05The Project Process, Step by Step and Fully Online
A Leverkusen company website goes live in six stages, and each one is approved on screen. None of them requires an in person meeting; our team works from Istanbul, and if your travels take you there, you are welcome to meet us at our office in Ataşehir, though it is never necessary.
- Kickoff call: a short video call about your buyers, languages, internal approvers and current site.
- Written scope: page list, forms, languages and timeline in one document; work starts once you approve it.
- Structure and content: a menu outline and a stated purpose for each page; we collect certificates, photos and Impressum details from you.
- Design review: mobile layout first, then desktop, presented on a video call; change requests are logged in the CRM.
- Live preview: the site runs on a private address so you can test forms, click to call buttons and file uploads yourself.
- Launch and training: domain connected, Search Console set up and a short session on editing content.
The most valuable input from your side is a few hours from the person who knows the work, usually at stage three. We cannot invent which plants you work in, which approvals you hold or what buyers ask first; that knowledge comes from you and decides how useful the site becomes.
In larger organizations, name one person who collects feedback from sales, HR and compliance. You will find the full service scope on our web design service page.
06Local SEO in Leverkusen: Profile, Districts and Directories
Ranking in local searches starts with a Google Business Profile whose details match your website exactly. For "near me" and "in der Nähe" searches, map results sit at the top of the page, and a thin or inconsistent profile is hard to make up for with the site alone.
Leverkusen has three city districts and thirteen neighborhoods, and real searches name them. Examples that fit a site only if you truly work there: "Hausmeisterservice Rheindorf", "Physiotherapie Quettingen", "Immobilienmakler Bergisch Neukirchen" or "Umzug Hitdorf". Instead of separate pages where only the place name changes, describe your service area once, clearly, on the relevant service page.
- Business name: exactly as on your sign and in your Impressum, without added keywords.
- Service area: businesses that travel to customers can hide their address and list Leverkusen, Langenfeld, Leichlingen or Burscheid instead.
- German directories: Gelbe Seiten, Das Örtliche and 11880 with name, address and phone written identically.
- Reviews: a calm, specific reply to each review within a few days, in the language the customer used.
Procurement searches work differently: they are won by detailed service pages, not by the map. One page per service, a precise heading and structured data improve the chance of appearing when a buyer searches. We describe the technical side and the content plan on our SEO service page.
07Languages: German First, English and Turkish When They Pay Off
German should lead in Leverkusen, even for an international firm; English and Turkish follow when a specific audience needs them. Local customers, authorities, banks and most local searches use German, and the Impressum and privacy policy must be available in German.
English pays off when colleagues abroad, group procurement or international hires read the site. Decision makers in multinational companies around Chempark often work in English, and a supplier with a clear English summary is easier to recommend internally. Turkish suits services where families discuss the decision together, such as insurance, real estate, care or tutoring.
- Separate addresses: each language lives on its own URL, for example a folder named en on your .de domain.
- hreflang: each version references itself and every other version; annotations that are not reciprocal may be ignored.
- Equal depth: the English version should cover the services buyers ask about, not just a translated home page.
- Human review: machine translation is a draft; a wrong sentence about a safety approval costs more trust than a missing page.
After launch, you can check your language tags with our hreflang generator. The full planning approach for two and three language sites is on our multilingual website page.
A quick decision test: how many enquiries last quarter started in English or Turkish? If the honest answer is close to zero, the second language can wait for phase two of your web design Leverkusen plan.
08Speed, Hosting and Security
Many visitors open a Leverkusen business site on a phone, often on site, in a vehicle or in a meeting break, and a slow page sends them to the next result. Google's Core Web Vitals treat these values as good: LCP, which measures how quickly the largest content loads, at 2.5 seconds or less; INP, which measures how fast the page responds to a tap, at 200 milliseconds or less; and CLS, which measures how much the layout shifts, at 0.1 or less.
Decisions made during design matter more than fixes added later:
- Images: plant and fleet photos in WebP, served at the size they are displayed.
- Fonts: loaded from your own server instead of Google's; a Munich Regional Court ruling of 20 January 2022 awarded damages over Google Fonts loaded without consent.
- Hosting: EU data center, current PHP version, automatic backups stored elsewhere and an SSL certificate.
- Plugins: each one needs a clear job; removing unused code is the easiest gain for speed and security.
- Forms: spam protection, file size limits and SPF, DKIM and DMARC so quotes do not land in junk folders.
Certificate PDFs are a frequent cause of slow supplier sites. Offer each document as a separate, compressed file with a clear name; one large bundle may never open on a buyer's phone.
09Sector Examples Specific to Leverkusen
Leverkusen's industries decide which sections a site needs first. The examples below follow from the city's economic structure; none is a ready template, each is a starting point to adapt to your business.
- Industrial cleaning and maintenance: plant types served, safety approvals, an emergency number and a quote form with file upload. The full structure is on our industrial cleaning company website page.
- Haulage and warehousing: for carriers using the Leverkusener Kreuz, which Die Autobahn GmbH says carries almost 250,000 vehicles a day, a fleet overview, service area map and a short enquiry form that works from a phone; see the logistics company website page.
- Subsidiaries and specialist firms: a German version for customers and authorities, an English version for global colleagues and a contact person for each region.
- Consultancies and event services: for firms working around the Bayer headquarters, case descriptions without confidential details, team profiles and a clear briefing form.
Compare your competitors' sites against the example closest to you: the section they are missing may be your advantage. You can review live projects from Türkiye, including logistics, an electrician and insurance technology, on our references page.
10Legal Basics for Websites in Germany
A commercial website in Germany must follow German rules no matter who builds it or where the parent company sits; English pages are covered too. The points below are a general overview, not legal advice; have your texts checked by a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt).
- Impressum: § 5 DDG (Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz) requires company name, address, contact details, register entry and, where applicable, VAT number, reachable from every page.
- Privacy policy: the GDPR (DSGVO in Germany) requires a clear account of which data you process and why; forms, maps and analytics tools must each be named.
- Cookie consent: § 25 TDDDG requires consent before non essential cookies run, and rejecting must be as easy as accepting.
- Accessibility: since 28 June 2025 the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) covers many consumer facing online shops and services; micro enterprises offering services, with fewer than 10 staff and no more than 2 million euros in turnover or balance sheet total, are exempt. Check whether it applies to you.
- Online shops: under § 312j BGB, the order button must clearly state the obligation to pay, for example "zahlungspflichtig bestellen", and consumers need a complete withdrawal notice.
We handle the technical side: a consent tool that actually blocks scripts, locally hosted fonts, and forms set up in line with your processing agreements. If you plan to sell online, we plan the shop and its legal steps as a separate part of the scope.
11Relaunching Without Losing Rankings
If your current site already appears in Google for useful searches, the biggest risk of a relaunch is losing those addresses. For a contractor that has ranked for "industrial cleaning Leverkusen" for years, that position may be worth more than the new design.
- Inventory: list every old URL, the most clicked pages in Search Console and the pages that earn external links.
- Mapping: give each old URL a counterpart on the new site; where none exists, pick the closest topic.
- Redirects: connect old and new addresses with permanent 301 redirects and avoid sending everything to the home page.
- Launch day: submit the new sitemap in Search Console and confirm that robots.txt does not block the site.
- Monitoring: check 404 errors and clicks on key searches weekly for the first four weeks.
If the domain changes too, for example from a .com to a .de address, use the change of address tool in Search Console and update your Business Profile and directory listings on the same day. To keep a page out of the index, use noindex rather than a robots.txt block, because Google cannot read the noindex on a page it is not allowed to crawl.
12Common Mistakes on Leverkusen Business Sites
Most recurring mistakes on Leverkusen business sites come from never deciding who the site is for. These six, each with a better alternative, are enough to audit your current site today.
- Hiding certificates: "high quality service" without documents convinces no buyer; show each approval with its name, scope and expiry date.
- English only for a German market: a subsidiary that skips German loses local customers and looks temporary; lead with German and keep English as a full second version.
- Copy pages for every nearby town: the same text for Monheim am Rhein, Burscheid and Leichlingen with the name swapped adds no value in Google; write one clear service area section.
- Incomplete Impressum: launching without register number or managing director invites trouble; match the address in your profile with the Impressum.
- Endless quote forms: fifteen fields get abandoned on a phone; name, phone, short description and file upload are enough for a first contact.
- Tracking before consent: analytics and ad tags that fire without consent break the rules; set up consent mode so measurement follows the visitor's choice.
Tick each item against your own site. If three or more apply, a web design Leverkusen relaunch of the structure is usually more efficient than patching individual pages.
13What Drives the Budget
Our prices do not change by city; a Leverkusen company chooses from the same packages as our clients in Türkiye, so scope sets the budget. In a web design Leverkusen project, these factors usually make the scope grow:
- Number of languages: each additional language means writing, review and hreflang setup.
- Document archive: certificates and references with filters and regular updates need their own section.
- Forms and integrations: quote forms with file upload, booking calendars or a connection to your CRM.
- Content preparation: whether you supply the text or we prepare it, and whether usable photos already exist.
- Internal approvals: in larger organizations, extra review rounds with legal, HR or group marketing.
Before cutting anything, ask which section will not produce a single enquiry in year one; a careers page or a third language can wait, the Impressum and consent setup cannot. When comparing web design Leverkusen quotes, read the scope list, not just the total. Fixed packages and what they include are in our web design pricing section; multilingual builds, archives and shops get a written quote once the scope is clear.
14The First 90 Days and Your Next Step
The three months after launch show whether the site actually produces work in Leverkusen, and skipping measurement in that period is the most common oversight. A web design Leverkusen project does not end on launch day; it settles in the first 90 days.
- Weeks one and two: check indexing in Search Console, e-mail delivery from every form and that the consent banner blocks what it should.
- Month one: add current photos to your Business Profile, align directory listings and ask recent customers for reviews.
- Month two: see which pages lead to enquiries; do visitors from procurement searches reach the certificate page?
- Month three: add the questions buyers asked most to the service pages and review how the English or Turkish version is really used.
Starting needs little preparation: who your customers are, which language they search in and the address of your current site. Send that through our contact form, and after a short video call we will send the page list, timeline and quote in writing.
To decide, put two things side by side: how many enquiries the site brings today, and which requests from buyers or neighbors you are missing. If the gap is clear, the next step is a conversation. If you also serve customers across the Rhine, our Cologne web design page covers that market.
