This guide is for three kinds of readers: a manufacturer in Kocaeli that sells to carmakers and export markets, a foreign group that runs a plant between Gebze and İzmit and needs a local site, and a port or warehousing firm on the Gulf of İzmit. In each case the most important visitor is rarely a consumer. It is a sourcing engineer, a freight forwarder or a colleague at headquarters who reads the site as part of a supplier review.
Below, Talha Aslan and team walk through the decisions that shape web design in Kocaeli, in the order they usually come up, with questions to ask any agency and checks you can run yourself.
01The Job a Website Does in Kocaeli's Economy
In Kocaeli, a company website mostly works as a qualification document: it has to get you onto a supplier list before anyone visits the plant. TÜİK's provincial GDP figures for 2024 put Kocaeli fourth in total output and second in output per person, right behind Istanbul. Ministry of Trade data by province of production show that 12.0 percent of Turkey's exports in 2023 came from Kocaeli, against 6.9 percent from Bursa and 3.7 percent from Sakarya.
Buyers here are procurement teams, and sourcing usually starts with a desk review long before a request for quotation; your site is often the first document in that file. Make sure it answers these questions without a phone call:
- Processes: which operations you run in your own plant and which you subcontract, with floor area and shift pattern.
- Quality system: the certificates you hold, their scope and expiry dates, written as text rather than scanned images.
- Location and logistics: the industrial zone, motorway and port access, and how you ship.
- Contacts: who handles quotes, quality issues and dispatch, by role.
If a buyer cannot find these answers in two or three clicks, the next supplier on the list gets the call. Before any design work starts, find out who inside your company owns each of these facts.
02Who Searches for What Around Kocaeli
Search behavior in Kocaeli splits sharply between the western industrial belt and the gulf, so one homepage cannot serve every query. Around Gebze, Çayırova and Dilovası most searches are business to business; around İzmit, Başiskele and Kartepe, consumer and service searches carry more weight.
- Process and product searches: a buyer abroad types "plastic injection molding supplier Turkey" or "machined aluminum parts Kocaeli"; deep product pages win here.
- Industrial zone searches: people use the names GOSB, TOSB, İMES or Dilovası OSB to find neighbors and service providers, so the zone name belongs in your address and page text.
- Port and storage searches: bonded warehouse, container trucking and project cargo queries cluster around Derince, Körfez and Gölcük, and each service needs its own page.
- Seasonal searches: winter stays near Kartepe's slopes, summer beaches on the Kandıra coast, livestock sales before Eid al Adha in Gebze and Darıca, and school enrollment in late spring.
Visitors from abroad also search before trips: an engineer flying in for a supplier audit wants the plant address, the nearest airport and a contact who speaks English. A short visitor page with airport access and plant entry rules saves several emails per audit.
For seasonal pages, publish at least two months before demand peaks.
03Choosing a Partner Outside the Province
We run every Kocaeli project online, so the right question is not how close an agency is but how well it fits the way an industrial company actually approves content. In a plant, website content is spread across sales, quality, export and HR, and sometimes a group office in another country.
Ask every agency on your shortlist these questions and get the answers in writing:
- Confidentiality: will you sign a nondisclosure agreement covering customer names, drawings and capacity data?
- Several reviewers: can quality and sales comment on the same draft separately, with each comment tied to a specific element?
- Group governance: have you worked inside a parent company's brand guidelines and approval chain?
- Relevant proof: can you show a live site for a manufacturer or logistics company, not just a mockup?
- Visibility: where can we see the project's status at any time, without waiting for a weekly report?
The answer to the last question tells you most about remote work. Projects where decisions vanish into phone calls suffer from distance; projects where every decision is written down do not. Our live work from Kocaeli, from a logistics company in Derince to a nursery school in Gebze, is on our references page.
04Domain, Hosting, Code and Accounts in Your Name
The site and every account connected to it should belong to the legal entity that operates the plant, and that rule matters even more in Kocaeli's foreign owned facilities. In group structures we often find the domain held by headquarters, the server run by local IT and the ad account tied to a former employee's personal login, which turns the next management change into a recovery project.
At handover, check each of these together with your agency:
- Domain registrant: decide in writing whether the local company or the parent is the registrant, and route renewal notices to a shared mailbox.
- Server access: at least two people in your company hold administrator access, and the backup location is documented.
- Source files: code, database and design files can be handed over in full on request.
- Analytics and ads: Search Console, GA4 and any ad account live under a company account; the agency is added as a user.
- Business profiles: your company is the primary owner of the Google Business Profile for each plant.
Group information security policies sometimes require a specific hosting region, provider or single sign on. Learn this at the quote stage, not in launch week; moving servers at the last minute costs far more than one email to group IT.
05The Online Project Process, Step by Step
What makes a remote project fast is a clear sequence, with a written record of what was approved at the end of each step. Projects with Kocaeli companies run like this:
- Discovery call: on video, in English or Turkish, we review your production, your buyers and the sites of competing suppliers.
- Written scope: pages, languages, document area and timeline go into the quote; work starts when you approve it.
- Department session: sales, quality and export leads decide together what is public and what is shared only on request.
- Design approval: you review the design in a browser, every reviewer comments on the relevant element, and no code is written before approval.
- Build and testing: forms, downloads and language switching are tested on different devices and browsers.
- Launch and training: a video session shows your team how to update content.
You follow every step live in our CRM. If you would rather meet in person, we can host you at our office in Ataşehir, Istanbul, by appointment; for teams based around Gebze that trip is often short, and the rest of the project still runs online.
Trade fairs cause the most schedule pressure. If you are launching a product at a fair, set the go live date at least three weeks earlier and plan the fair landing page separately, so the address printed on your stand material does not lead to an empty page.
06Local SEO in Kocaeli Without Doorway Pages
Map visibility starts with the Google Business Profile, and companies with several sites in Kocaeli need a separate, consistent profile for each real address. A firm that manufactures in Gebze and stores goods in Derince can run two profiles; a profile for a district where you have no premises breaks Google's rules.
Google's guidelines require the profile name to match your real world name without added keywords, so "Firm Name Cheap Freight Gebze" is a suspension risk.
The rules we apply to district searches:
- Real place names only: answer queries like "Darıca sports club", "Gebze kindergarten" or "Körfez bonded warehouse" only where you really operate.
- No cloned district pages: four near identical pages for İzmit, Gölcük, Karamürsel and Kandıra are what Google calls doorway pages.
- Zone, block and parcel: write the industrial zone, block and parcel the same way on the site, the profile and directory listings.
- Truck access details: gate number, truck entrance and delivery hours are what drivers and visitors look for first.
For manufacturers, buyers usually search by product rather than by district, so product page depth does more than district pages. To plan local and industry visibility together, see our SEO service.
07Who Reads Your Site in English or German
In Kocaeli a second language is usually part of the sales process rather than decoration. According to the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, around 451 of its roughly 3,950 member firms have foreign capital, with German, Dutch and US companies prominent among them. Headquarters, distributors and export customers all expect to read your site in their language.
Use these criteria to decide when an extra language pays for itself:
- Parent company abroad: if headquarters reviews the plant site, English is the minimum.
- Buyers who read German: automotive and machinery suppliers selling into Germany, Austria or Switzerland shorten the quote cycle with German pages.
- Distributor network: data sheets and catalogs should exist in the language your distributor passes on to its own customers.
- Recruitment: even at a foreign owned plant, the careers page stays in Turkish, because applicants live in Kocaeli.
Technically, each language lives at its own address and the versions are linked with hreflang, an annotation that tells Google which page is which language version; every version must reference itself and all the others. Before launch you can generate the correct annotations with our hreflang generator.
Machine translated German reads as carelessness to a German buyer; the text needs someone who knows the industry's vocabulary. As the number of languages grows, plan the structure from the start, as described on our multilingual website page.
08Speed, Hosting and Security Behind a Corporate Firewall
Industrial buyers often open your site on an office PC behind a corporate firewall, while your own field staff reach it from a warehouse with a weak mobile signal. A site that loads fast and cleanly in both situations signals a well run company.
We measure speed against Google's Core Web Vitals at the 75th percentile of visits: LCP, the time until the largest piece of content appears, at 2.5 seconds or less; INP, how quickly the page reacts to a tap or click, at 200 milliseconds or less; CLS, how much content shifts while loading, at 0.1 or less.
On Kocaeli manufacturing sites these are the usual culprits and their fixes:
- Heavy plant videos: replace an autoplaying drone film on the homepage with a short compressed clip or a player that loads on click.
- Huge PDF catalogs: move downloads to a document area and write the key product data as page text.
- Uncompressed machine photos: convert images to modern formats and serve them at screen size.
- Quotes landing in spam: without SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, quotations sent from your domain can be filtered by large buyers' mail systems.
Automatic SSL renewal, backups stored away from the web server and a named person responsible for updates belong on the handover list.
09Site Structures for Kocaeli's Industries
Your industry decides which pages lead, and in Kocaeli that ranges from automotive suppliers and port services to chemicals and early childhood education. According to the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, the province accounts for 45 percent of Turkey's vehicle output, 27 percent of its chemical industry and 19 percent of its metal industry.
- Automotive supplier: process list, machine table and certificates one click from the main menu, plus a quote form that asks for part name, annual volume and a drawing upload. More on our manufacturing company website page.
- Port, bonded warehouse and haulage: container handling, bonded storage and road transport on separate pages; the site we built for our client Soyalan Lojistik in Derince follows this pattern. See our logistics company website page.
- Chemicals and plastics: product groups plus a document area listing technical data sheets and safety data sheets with version dates, so distributors always send the current file.
- Local services in Gebze and Darıca: for clients such as a nursery school, a sports club and a livestock business, enrollment forms, season announcements and district relevant pages matter most.
If contracts forbid naming customers, describe references by sector and part type, for example "door panel brackets for a European passenger car maker". That keeps confidentiality intact and still shows capability.
10Legal Basics: KVKK, GDPR Consent and Online Sales
Your legal texts must describe the data you really collect, and at Kocaeli plants the page that collects the most personal data is usually the careers page, not the quote form. A job application form that receives CVs, addresses and sometimes health information needs the most careful design.
- Information notice: Turkey's data protection law KVKK (Law No. 6698, Article 10) requires an information notice wherever you collect personal data, stating who processes it, why and on what legal basis; link it from every form.
- Collect only what you need: do not ask for health reports or ID copies at the first application stage; health data is special category personal data under KVKK and belongs in a later, separate step if needed.
- Cookie consent: if your site gets visitors from the European Economic Area, such as your parent company or customers, non essential tracking needs consent first, and Google requires consent mode for measurement and ad personalization for those users.
- Online sales: if you sell spare parts or club merchandise online, Turkish distance sales rules require pre contract information and withdrawal details before payment.
With an EU parent, ask your legal team whether applicant or customer data flows to group systems; that shapes both the KVKK notice and any GDPR duties. The legal content of these texts remains your and your counsel's responsibility; we make sure they are linked to the right forms and easy to read.
11Redesigning Without Losing Search Traffic
Many Kocaeli industrial sites have sat at the same address for over a decade, and old product codes, PDF catalogs or English pages on a separate subdomain still bring visits from search. Deleting those addresses without a plan can leave a far better looking site with fewer visitors for months.
This is the sequence we follow:
- Take inventory: list every page, every downloadable file and every address that gets clicks in Search Console.
- Map one to one: send each old address to its closest new equivalent; an old product code goes to the new product group page, never to the homepage.
- Redirect permanently: set up 301 redirects, which tell browsers and Google that a page has moved for good.
- Merge language versions: if English pages move from a subdomain into the new language structure, hreflang and redirects go live on the same day.
- Watch the first weeks: monitor Search Console error reports and fix any address that slipped through.
Blocking a staging site in robots.txt is not enough to keep it out of search, because Google cannot read a noindex tag on a page it is not allowed to crawl. Password protection is the safer route. The full process is on our website redesign page.
12Common Mistakes on Kocaeli Industrial Sites
Most mistakes in Kocaeli come from building the site through the owner's eyes rather than the buyer's. These are the six most common, each with a better alternative:
- Stock factory photos: instead of generic production images, show your own machines, quality lab and shipping area.
- Expired certificates: instead of an old certificate scan, write the standard, scope and expiry date as text and update it at every renewal.
- Machine lists as images: instead of a scanned table, publish a searchable text table with machine type, count and capacity.
- One generic inbox: instead of sending every request to the same address, route quotes, quality issues and applications to separate recipients.
- Only the zone name as address: instead of writing "Dilovası OSB" and stopping there, give the street, parcel and truck entrance with a map.
- No careers page: instead of leaving hiring to job boards, add a Turkish page that explains shifts, shuttle routes and how to apply.
None of these needs a full rebuild; many can be fixed with content edits before you decide on a redesign.
13What Drives the Budget Up or Down
Scope, not location, sets the cost of a Kocaeli web design project; our prices are the same for a plant in Kocaeli as for a company anywhere else. In industrial projects these decisions move the scope most:
- Number of product and process pages: every product group needs its own text, images and technical table.
- Language versions: each language adds adaptation and technical setup, and German technical terms get a separate review.
- Document area: files shared only on request need a login or form gate, which is more work than a plain download list.
- Integrations: connecting the quote form to your CRM or ERP widens the scope; custom portals are planned as custom software work.
The most effective way to keep the budget down is to have content ready on time. Companies that collect photos, certificates and the machine table before kickoff need fewer revision rounds. The second lever is phasing languages: English first, German when demand appears. In a properly built structure, adding a language later does not require a rebuild.
14The First 90 Days and Your Next Step
Launch is the day data starts arriving, not the day the project ends, and planning the first 90 days is what turns a new site into a sales tool. For Kocaeli companies we suggest three phases.
In month one, watch Search Console and GA4, fix broken links and form errors, and count domestic and international enquiries separately by language version. In month two, review the most visited product pages and the completion rate of the quote form, and simplify any field that makes buyers abandon it. In month three, decide on new product pages, trade fair announcements and, if it makes sense, advertising.
Each week, compare enquiry sources and languages with your sales team; a German distributor who downloads a German data sheet and then uses the English quote form shows you where to invest.
Before deciding, answer four questions: who opens your site first, which documents are ready, how many languages you need and which departments will supply content. Our fixed price packages are listed under web design pricing, and you can book a video discovery call in English or Turkish through our contact page; after the call we send a written scope and quote.
