Web design for Canada

Web Design in Edmonton

An Edmonton company website is often read by three very different people: a homeowner in Windermere looking for a trade, a procurement lead at a plant in the Industrial Heartland and a student near the university campus. Talha Aslan and team design sites that work for each of them; we build from Istanbul, meet by video and agree every deliverable in writing.

In short

Web design in Edmonton means fast, clear pages for a growing city, capability pages that satisfy industrial buyers and privacy basics that follow Alberta law. Statistics Canada counted 1,010,899 residents in Edmonton in 2021, up 8.3 per cent from 2016, making Alberta's capital the country's fifth largest municipality. Talha Aslan and team deliver these sites for Edmonton businesses through a fully online process.

Edmonton's business profile

What does an Edmonton website have to handle?

With 1,010,899 residents in the 2021 Census, Edmonton is Canada's fifth largest municipality and Alberta's second after Calgary. As the provincial capital it combines government, heavy industry, a large university and a busy summer season, and each of those sets a task for your website.

Population growth from 2016 to 2021 (%)Statistics Canada, 2021 Census, table 98-10-0002-01
  • Edmonton8.3%
  • Calgary5.5%
  • Ottawa8.9%

A capital that keeps growing

The city grew from 933,088 people in 2016 to 1,010,899 in 2021, an increase of 8.3 per cent. Families settling in newer areas such as Windermere and Summerside look for plumbers, dentists, daycares and renovators on their phones, so your site has to state plainly which parts of the city you serve.

Next door to the Industrial Heartland

Northeast of the city, Alberta's Industrial Heartland covers 582 square kilometres with more than 40 operating companies and about 50 billion dollars of existing capital investment; its association calls it Canada's largest hydrocarbon processing region. Contractors and suppliers serving these plants are vetted online long before the first site visit.

A major research university

The University of Alberta lists 46,201 students and 17 faculties. Cafés, rentals, tutoring and services around Garneau and Whyte Avenue speak to a young, international crowd, while campus spinoffs need product sites that explain complex research in plain English.

A summer full of festivals

The Edmonton Fringe calls itself North America's largest and longest running Fringe theatre festival, with more than 200 productions over 11 days each August. During festival weeks, visitors check opening hours, directions and booking for restaurants, hotels and venues on their phones.

How we work

Edmonton projects, delivered remotely from Istanbul

We have no office, staff or representative in Canada; our whole team sits in Istanbul. Kickoff, design reviews and training with Edmonton clients all happen on video. Istanbul is 9 hours ahead of Edmonton, and because Alberta stays on UTC-6 all year from November 2026, that gap no longer shifts with the seasons. We usually meet early in your working day.

Talha Aslan leads the strategy; design, development and copy are done by our team. Before any work begins we agree in writing which pages the site needs, who writes the privacy policy, which enquiries matter most to you and how the site will be measured. We suggest having the final privacy wording reviewed by a lawyer licensed in Alberta.

  • Video meetings booked in your Alberta morning
  • Pages, features and timeline fixed in a written quote
  • Live preview link for every design round
  • Progress you can follow in our CRM
  • Handover training and support after launch

Sites Edmonton businesses ask for

Website types that fit Edmonton's economy

Growing suburbs, a major industrial region, a university and a busy festival calendar each call for a different kind of site. These four match the profile above most closely.

Industrial contractors and suppliers

For welding, scaffolding, maintenance, electrical or insulation firms: capability pages, a certificate list and a quote form procurement teams can use; structure on our industrial company website page.

Trades serving new neighbourhoods

For plumbing, renovation, cleaning and landscaping: clear service areas such as Windermere, Summerside, St. Albert or Sherwood Park, prominent click to call and fast loading pages.

Trucking, warehousing and field services

For carriers, storage providers and firms moving equipment to job sites: service pages per load type and a quick quote flow; ideas on our logistics company website page.

Festival and seasonal pages

For restaurants, cafés and venues during Fringe weeks and other peak dates: a short landing page with hours, directions and booking up front.

Process

From brief to launch in four steps

  1. Discovery and scope

We define your business, your audience and the site’s one-sentence job: who it sells what to, through which action. Scope and timeline are written from that answer.

  2. Design approval

The home page and key templates come to you as designs first; no code is written before your approval. We do not like surprises, and we do not cause them.

  3. Development

The approved design becomes fast, secure, maintainable code. You follow progress in the CRM and see every page in a staging environment before launch.

  4. Launch and measurement

The site goes live with analytics, Search Console and conversion tracking connected; panel training is given, first-year hosting and maintenance included.

In-depth guide

Web Design Edmonton: Sites for Suburbs, Plant Buyers and Long Winters

Talha Aslan and teamLast updated: 16 min read

This guide is for owners about to commission a new site for an Edmonton business: a plumbing firm working the new communities along the Anthony Henday, a fabrication shop in Nisku or Acheson that bids on plant turnarounds, a physiotherapy clinic in Terwillegar, a café off Whyte Avenue that fills up every August. Each of them needs web design Edmonton customers will trust, and each starts from a different question.

The order below follows the decisions as a real project meets them, from the reader you write for to the months after launch, and it was put together by Talha Aslan and team. Each part closes with something usable this week: a check on your own phone, a question to put to agencies or a clause for your contract.

What Edmonton's Economy Expects From a Website

An Edmonton website usually has to win over two very different buyers: a household that decides on a phone within minutes and an industrial buyer who checks credentials for weeks. The 2021 Census put the city's population at 1,010,899, which Statistics Canada reports as 8.3 per cent more than in 2016, a faster rise than Calgary recorded over the same period.

Northeast of the city, Alberta's Industrial Heartland hosts more than 40 companies on 582 square kilometres, and its association describes the area as Canada's largest hydrocarbon processing region. The University of Alberta lists 46,201 students. Together these facts hand a web design Edmonton project four distinct jobs:

  • Growth: new families in Windermere, Summerside or Heritage Valley need a trade, a dentist or a daycare they have never used, so the site must prove reliability to strangers.
  • Industry: procurement and safety staff at Heartland plants shortlist contractors from what they can verify online, such as tickets, certificates, safety program and equipment.
  • Campus: businesses in Garneau and Old Strathcona serve students and visiting researchers who arrive each September knowing little about the area.
  • Government: as Alberta's capital the city hosts ministries and agencies, so consultancies and suppliers write for readers who compare offers formally.

Decide which of these readers brings in most of your revenue. That answer sets the homepage message, the first menu item and the one enquiry you will track from launch day.

How Edmontonians Search, From River Valley to Ring Road

Edmonton searches follow geography. The North Saskatchewan River splits the city into a north side and a south side, and the Anthony Henday ring road decides which suburbs a tradesperson will drive to on a winter morning. Few people search with the bare city name; most add the community where they live or work.

  • South side communities: phrases like "furnace repair Mill Woods", "physio Terwillegar" or "daycare Summerside" come from neighbourhoods full of young families.
  • North side and centre: Castle Downs, Clareview, Oliver and the downtown blocks around the Ice District each produce their own searches, from condo cleaning to lunch delivery.
  • Metro towns: residents of St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Beaumont and Leduc often add "Edmonton" anyway, because they shop across the region.
  • Industrial queries: buyers search "NDT inspection Fort Saskatchewan", "scaffolding contractor Nisku" or "crane rental Acheson", usually from a desktop during working hours.
  • Seasonal spikes: snow removal and furnace searches climb in winter; patios, festivals and Fringe venues dominate August.

Try this before any meeting: list ten phrases your customers would type, search each on your phone with location turned on and note who fills the map results. That list becomes your page plan.

Type web design Edmonton into Google and studios with a street address here dominate the results. Below we look at when a team elsewhere still makes sense.

Hiring a Team Abroad: What to Ask Before You Sign

A studio abroad works when the scope is written, drafts are always open to you and the time difference is put to use. Istanbul, where our team is based, runs 9 hours ahead of Edmonton; because Alberta keeps the same clock all year from November 2026, that gap no longer shifts with the seasons. Your 8 o'clock call lands in our late afternoon, and feedback sent at your lunchtime is usually handled while you sleep.

Distance matters far less than discipline. Ask every studio on your shortlist, local or remote, to answer these points in writing:

  • Who leads our calls, and will we receive notes with decisions and open items within one working day?
  • Does the quote name each page, form, integration and revision round, and list what is excluded?
  • Can we open the work in progress through a preview link at any hour we choose?
  • Who writes the copy for capability pages, and who checks technical terms such as ticket names or certifying bodies?
  • How are support requests handled after launch, and within which hours of our business day?

Then weigh delivered sites more heavily than pitch decks. Everything we have shipped so far is live in Türkiye; pick a few from our portfolio of completed projects, fill in their forms on your phone and let that hands on test guide you.

Domain, Hosting, Code and Logins in Your Company's Name

Every account your site depends on should be opened under your company, with the studio invited as a user you can remove at any time. That rule protects you if a supplier relationship ends, and it answers questions that larger clients ask during vendor reviews.

  • Domain: a .ca tells buyers you operate in Canada; the registry applies Canadian presence requirements, so an Alberta corporation or a resident owner should be the registrant. Firms bidding across North America often prefer a .com.
  • DNS and email: keep the registrar login yourself. The same DNS records carry SPF and DKIM, the settings that stop your quotes from landing in a buyer's spam folder.
  • Hosting: an account in your name, in a data centre region you can state when a plant's vendor questionnaire asks where data is stored.
  • Source files: written confirmation that the design, programming, text and images created for you are your property, delivered as a complete export at handover.
  • Profiles and analytics: Google Business Profile, Search Console and GA4 opened with a company address, never a former employee's personal inbox.

Keep one access sheet that records every service, who owns it and which people hold admin rights. It turns any later change of provider into a planned handover instead of a hunt for passwords, and it takes ten minutes to write.

The Project, Stage by Stage, With No One Flying

Our website design service runs through seven stages, and none starts until the previous one has your written sign off. For an Edmonton client the sequence looks like this:

  1. Kickoff call: early in your working day, covering your readers, service area, the enquiry you value most and the licences or certificates worth showing; notes follow the same day.
  2. Written scope: one document listing pages, languages, forms and integrations, the number of revision rounds, the schedule and what falls outside the job.
  3. Page plan: the purpose of each page, its main search phrase and who supplies photos, ticket lists and project references.
  4. First designs: the homepage and one service or capability page, walked through with you on screen.
  5. Build on a preview: a protected link you can open from the office or a job site, with progress visible in our CRM.
  6. Checks: speed on a mobile connection, forms, consent records, redirects, keyboard navigation and analytics events.
  7. Launch and training: publication on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning in Alberta, followed by a recorded editing tutorial for whoever maintains the site.

None of this requires travel, and most web design Edmonton projects with us never involve a flight. Should a trip ever take you to Istanbul, our Ataşehir office is open for a meeting; it remains an option, never a condition of the work.

Local Search From Mill Woods to St. Albert

For a trade or a clinic, the Google Business Profile often brings more calls than the website itself, so treat it as part of the build. Google's guidelines say the profile name must be the one customers see in real life, with no keywords added; "Windermere Dental Edmonton Emergency Dentist" is not allowed unless your signage reads exactly that.

  • Service areas: a contractor without a storefront may keep the street address private and name the communities it covers, for example Mill Woods, Sherwood Park and St. Albert.
  • Categories and services: choose the narrowest main category that fits and describe services in your customers' words, for example "furnace tune up" rather than "HVAC solutions".
  • Matching details: the same name, phone number, street address and opening hours everywhere: website, profile and Yellow Pages.
  • Reviews: a request with a direct link after every completed job, and a reply to each review within a few days, critical ones included.

Do not publish a page for every community with nothing changed but the place name; Google classes such pages as doorway pages. A separate page is justified only by a real difference, for example a second location in Heritage Valley or travel terms for rural jobs toward Stony Plain.

Profile upkeep, fresh content and a monthly report are part of our SEO service for owners who prefer to delegate. Watch calls and direction requests in the profile's own statistics as well.

English First, Then Turkish, German or French Where It Pays

English is the language your Alberta customers, permits and tenders use, so the English site must be complete before any other version starts. A second language earns its place only when a defined group will read it and a person in your company replies in that language.

  • Turkish: useful for firms whose clients, suppliers or crews are part of the Turkish speaking community, or who source tiles, textiles or machinery from manufacturers in Türkiye.
  • German: relevant for Canadian subsidiaries and distributors of German, Austrian or Swiss equipment makers, whose head office reads the site too.
  • French: worth weighing for suppliers bidding on federal contracts or serving francophone families; for most local trades it is not the first addition.

Each language needs its own URLs, translated navigation, forms and confirmation messages, and hreflang annotations in which every version points to each sibling version and to itself. Our page on planning a site in several languages walks through URL patterns and markup.

Avoid browser translation widgets as a shortcut. They create no pages a search engine can index, and a buyer who switches language only to meet an English quote form loses confidence just before contacting you. Write the homepage, the main services and the enquiry flow properly in each language first.

Speed and Security for Cold Phones and Job Sites

Edmonton visitors often reach your site in conditions that punish slow pages: a homeowner with a frozen pipe at night, a foreman checking a supplier between tasks on a site with weak signal. Core Web Vitals, Google's field metrics, judge this from real visits at the 75th percentile. LCP, when the biggest element on screen has rendered, should come within 2.5 seconds; INP, how long the page takes to react after a tap, within 200 milliseconds; CLS, how much content shifts during loading, at 0.1 or below.

  • Page weight: compress photos of equipment and finished work, serve modern image formats and load galleries only when visitors scroll to them.
  • Tap targets: call and quote buttons large enough for a gloved thumb, placed where a visitor finds them without zooming.
  • Server location: Canadian or western North American data centres keep response times short for Alberta visitors.
  • Protection: an SSL certificate across the whole site, updates applied automatically, daily backups stored off the server and two factor login for every administrator.

Before the first call, run your current homepage through our mobile friendliness test and compare it with a competitor that ranks above you. The gap between the two often explains more than a long audit report.

Edmonton Industries and What Their Sites Must Show

Build around the market you actually sell into, because each Edmonton sector asks a different first question. These patterns cover most web design Edmonton briefs:

  • Industrial contractors and fabricators: shops in Nisku, Acheson or the Heartland need capability pages per service, certificate lists, a safety program summary, an equipment roster and a quote form that asks for scope and site. Our industrial company website page shows the structure.
  • Trucking and warehousing: carriers and storage firms need regions served, equipment types, dispatch hours and a short quote flow; see the logistics company website guide.
  • Trades in growing suburbs: plumbers, HVAC firms, roofers and landscapers need clear service areas, galleries by job type and a seasonal message before the first hard freeze.
  • Campus area businesses: tutoring, rentals and cafés near the University of Alberta, MacEwan University or NAIT need term calendars and plain policies for students and parents.
  • Festival season venues: restaurants and small hotels busy during the Fringe or the Folk Music Festival need hours, directions and booking at the top of the page.

For each type, decide the one thing a visitor must do next and place it within the first screen on a phone. Everything else on the page should support that step.

Alberta and Federal Rules That Touch Your Site

Most Edmonton businesses fall under Alberta's own privacy law rather than the federal one, which surprises owners who copied a policy template from an Ontario firm. What follows is general orientation rather than legal advice; ask an Alberta lawyer to review your final policy and terms.

  • PIPA: provincially regulated private sector organizations in Alberta are generally covered by the Personal Information Protection Act, overseen by the province's Information and Privacy Commissioner; federally regulated businesses such as banks or airlines follow federal law. Your policy should explain which data each form gathers, for what purpose and who answers privacy questions.
  • CASL: before you send commercial email or text messages, the recipient must have consented. Log how and when each person agreed, and leave marketing boxes unticked.
  • Online sales: Alberta's Internet Sales Contract Regulation requires key terms to be disclosed before purchase, a chance to accept, decline or correct the order, and a copy of the contract within 15 days; where these are missing, customers may cancel within seven days.
  • Accessibility: check whether any accessibility duty applies to your organization; regardless, readable contrast, keyboard navigation and captions help every visitor and cost little when planned early.

If you ship to customers in other provinces, ask your lawyer whether their rules add anything, Quebec in particular.

Relaunching Without Losing the Rankings You Have

Rankings survive a redesign when each old URL that attracts visitors or backlinks points to its proper replacement from the first hour. Older Edmonton sites often hide valuable files, such as safety manuals, line cards and spec sheets, that buyers have bookmarked for years.

  1. Inventory: export URLs from analytics, Search Console and the XML sitemap, PDFs included.
  2. Keep winners: mark pages with impressions and links, keep their topics and build on them instead of starting from a blank page.
  3. Map: pair each old URL with its closest new equivalent in one sheet; our redirect map generator speeds this up.
  4. Redirect: one permanent 301 per old URL, no chains and no blanket redirect to the homepage.
  5. Indexing: keep the staging copy behind a password and noindex, and the live site open; Google cannot see a noindex on a URL that robots.txt forbids it to crawl.
  6. Monitor: submit the new sitemap, check coverage weekly for a month and fix any 404 errors as they appear.

Time the launch away from your own peak: not the week of the first cold snap for a furnace company, and not August for a venue near the Fringe grounds in Old Strathcona.

Frequent Errors on Edmonton Company Sites

Few of the expensive problems here are about colours or fonts; they sit in structure and content, and an owner can usually repair them within a day. Compare your present site with these six:

  • Stock skyline and river valley photos: the same pictures turn up on site after site in the region; replace them with your crew, trucks, shop floor or treatment rooms.
  • "Fully certified" with no detail: the phrase tells a safety coordinator nothing; list the certificates and programs you hold and keep the list current.
  • A thin page for every suburb: near identical pages per community risk being treated as doorways; publish one strong service area page with real local detail.
  • Last winter's hours still online: outdated holiday or storm hours send people to closed doors; review website and profile together whenever the season turns.
  • Marketing consent boxes ticked in advance: they undercut CASL consent; leave the box empty, word it plainly and log each agreement.
  • Quote forms that ask for everything: a long form loses a homeowner on a phone; ask for the essentials and collect the detail on the call.

Go through the list on a phone rather than a desktop, since that is how most first visits happen.

What Drives the Scope and Budget

Location plays no part in our pricing, so for web design Edmonton projects the real question is which decisions enlarge or shrink the work:

  • Distinct templates: a service page, a capability page, a project case and a job posting are four separate designs, while repeating an existing layout adds little.
  • Content production: writing technical capability copy from scratch and photographing a shop or fleet takes more time than polishing texts you hand us.
  • Languages: each one adds translation, review, separate titles, hreflang and continuing maintenance.
  • Integrations: dispatch software, booking tools, a CRM or applicant tracking for hiring each need setup and testing.
  • Online sales: a catalogue, shipping rules, taxes and the Alberta disclosure steps add their own work.

Launch first the pages that produce enquiries and plan the rest in phases. You will find our package prices for web design online; custom requirements are quoted in writing after a short call.

After Launch: A 90 Day Plan and How to Start

Whether a new site keeps producing calls is decided in its first three months, so put the plan in the calendar before going live. A simple rhythm suits most Edmonton businesses:

  • Weeks 1 to 4: check every form and call button, clear errors in Search Console, confirm the Business Profile and ask recent clients for reviews.
  • Weeks 5 to 8: see which communities and services bring enquiries, rewrite titles where Search Console shows many impressions yet a low click rate, and refresh seasonal content before the snow arrives.
  • Weeks 9 to 13: publish one in depth page a month, such as a completed project write up for industrial buyers or a winter service page for homeowners.

Before speaking with any studio about web design Edmonton work, write down your three most important readers and the ten searches from the second section. Those two notes make every quote you collect comparable.

Whenever it suits you, schedule a free video meeting early in your Alberta day. After hearing your goals we send a written scope that you can hold against any other offer, item by item.
