A company website in Diyarbakir rarely has a single audience. In one week it may be opened by an importer in Mosul comparing suppliers, a grocery buyer in Western Europe looking for Karacadağ rice, a family in Kayapınar choosing a tutoring center and a traveler near the old city walls deciding where to stay. Each arrives with a different question and leaves quickly if the answer is not on the first screen.
This guide from Talha Aslan and team walks through the decisions behind web design in Diyarbakir in the order an owner actually makes them. Every section ends with something you can check, ask or decide.
01The Job a Website Does in Diyarbakir's Economy
A website in Diyarbakir has to serve one of three quite different economies: a large service city, a farming basin with registered regional products and a trading gateway toward Iraq. Official TÜİK figures put the population at 1,833,684 at the end of 2024, about 2.14% of Turkey's total. A GAİB briefing on TÜİK provincial output data shows public administration, education, health and social work as the largest activity.
Trade matters too. Local press citing data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) reports that the province's exports grew 12% in 2025 and that roughly half went to Iraq, led by chemicals and by ferrous and non ferrous metals. Before any design work, answer three questions in writing:
- Where revenue comes from: Is most of it local customers, wholesalers elsewhere in Turkey or buyers across the border?
- First contact: Where does that person first meet you: on a map, at a trade fair, or through a link shared in a WhatsApp group?
- The action you want: A call, a quote request, a sample request or a booking?
These answers decide the menu order and the headline above the fold.
02Who Searches for What Around Diyarbakir
Search behavior in Diyarbakir changes with the district, the season and where the searcher is standing, so one generic page cannot serve it. Kayapınar and Bağlar are the two most populous districts, which is why many local service searches narrow to those names. Around Dicle University, demand for dorms and courses follows the academic calendar.
Seasons show up clearly as well. A seller of Diyarbakır watermelon gets attention in early summer; a rice packer gets it around harvest and packing time. Visitors to Sur, the walled historic center, increase during national holidays and the milder months, while summer heat pushes sightseeing toward mornings and evenings. Typical intents look like this:
- Local service: Searches such as "pediatric dentist Kayapınar" or "exam prep course Bağlar"; distance, opening hours and quick contact win.
- Product and wholesale: "Karacadağ rice wholesale" or "Diyarbakir watermelon order"; origin, pack size and a clear ordering route win.
- Visitors: "mansion hotel Sur", "how to reach the Hevsel Gardens" or "breakfast in Diyarbakir"; maps, photos and walking distances win.
- Verification: A buyer who received your quote and now types your company name; a tidy site and a consistent business profile should appear.
To build your own list, write down every question customers asked by phone or WhatsApp over the last three months; each should become a page or a labeled section.
03Working With a Team Outside the Province
Our work with Diyarbakir businesses runs entirely online, so the right partner is chosen by how transparent and traceable their process is, not by how close their door is. We have no branch or representative in the province. Written scope, regular video calls and a dashboard where every step is visible replace the reassurance of meeting in person.
Whoever you consider, ask these questions and request the answers in writing:
- Language capability: If you need Arabic, who writes the copy, and have they shipped a right to left layout before?
- Approval point: Do you review a working draft in the browser before any code is written?
- Contact person: Who will you talk to throughout, and can that person explain technical choices in plain words?
- Evidence: Which live sites, similar to your business, can you open today?
For that last question, open the live address on your phone and try the form. Our live work is listed on our portfolio page. None of it is in Diyarbakir, but projects in livestock, logistics, boutique hospitality and dental care are close to what businesses there need.
04Domain, Hosting and Accounts in Your Own Name
Every part of the site should be registered to the business itself; otherwise a change of agency or a departing employee can leave the website effectively held hostage. In family run companies across Diyarbakir it is common to find the domain registered years ago under a nephew's or a former employee's name.
At handover you should hold the following:
- Domain: Registered to the company's legal name, with the registrar account tied to an address you control.
- Hosting: Control panel access and a written note on where backups are kept and how often they run.
- Code and content: Access to files and database, so moving to another provider later meets no obstacle.
- Measurement accounts: Owner rights to Google Analytics 4, Search Console and the Google Business Profile, with the agency added only as a user.
- Business e-mail: Addresses on your own domain, with sender authentication records in place.
An Iraqi importer who receives an offer from a free webmail address will judge it before reading it. Mail on your own domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, the standard checks that prove a message really comes from you, lands in fewer spam folders and signals a serious supplier.
05The Project Step by Step, From First Call to Launch
Our web design projects for Diyarbakir clients run fully online, and each stage ends with a checkpoint that waits for your approval. Contracts and payment are completed online, and photos and documents go into a shared folder. If you happen to be in Istanbul, we can also meet by appointment at our Ataşehir office, although no step of the project depends on it.
The sequence looks like this:
- Discovery call: On video we cover your buyers, what you sell and which languages the site needs to speak.
- Written scope: Pages, language versions, forms and integrations are itemized in the proposal, and anything excluded is named.
- Draft: The home page and one inner page are built as a clickable draft; no code is written until you approve it.
- Build and content: The approved design is coded, copy and images are placed, and progress is tracked in our CRM.
- Testing: The site is tried on several phones, on slow connections and in every language, and each form is confirmed to reach you.
- Launch and training: The site goes live and a recorded video session shows your team how to use the admin panel.
This setup survives busy weeks: if a harvest or a large shipment leaves no time for meetings, you see what awaits approval in the CRM and respond when it suits you.
06Local Search From Kayapınar to Silvan
The first rule of local search for a Diyarbakir business is to write its Google Business Profile and its website details exactly the same way. Google's guidelines require the business name to match the real world name; adding keywords such as "Diyarbakir cheapest" puts the profile at risk. Service area businesses that travel to customers may hide their address and define the area they cover instead.
Tie any decision about district pages to real service. Ergani, Bismil and Silvan each have their own market and customers; if you run a branch or a regular service route there, a page with real content makes sense. Copies where only the place name changes count as doorway pages and can harm the whole site.
A district page worth publishing includes:
- A real address or schedule: For example, which days you serve Silvan, or the opening hours of the Ergani branch.
- Information unique to that place: Directions, parking, the services offered at that branch or the name of the person in charge.
- Local photos: The actual branch, inside and out, never stock images from another city.
- Its own reviews: Ratings from genuine customers, linked to that branch's Business Profile.
In a market where personal relationships carry so much weight, a QR code on the invoice or delivery slip is an easy way to ask for reviews.
07Arabic, English or German: Choosing Languages
In Diyarbakir the second language follows the buyer; each added version should open a door to a specific group rather than decorate the site. With about half of exports going to Iraq, Arabic is usually the first candidate. Most buyers in Iraq read Arabic, and they trust a supplier more when they can check its products in their own language.
English has a narrower but real role: international visitors exploring Sur and the Hevsel Gardens, and buyers outside the region. German is worth considering for families in Europe who order produce from home, or for firms working with a partner in Germany. Before adding any language, check three things:
- Proof of demand: Do you already receive messages, quote requests or orders in that language?
- Capacity to reply: Is there someone who can answer a question in that language the same day?
- Depth of content: Can product tables, shipping terms and FAQs be written completely in that language?
Technically, each language needs its own address and hreflang annotations, the tags that tell Google which version serves which language; every version must reference the others and itself. You can test existing tags with our hreflang generator. Arabic pages also need separate checks on right to left layout and on how numbers and product codes display. The full setup is described on our multilingual website page.
08Speed, Hosting and Security on Slower Connections
A Diyarbakir site should be tuned for an importer on mobile data across the border and a customer ordering from a village, not for a fast office line downtown. Google's "good" thresholds, measured at the 75th percentile of visits, are an LCP of 2.5 seconds or less; LCP tracks how long the largest element on the page takes to appear. INP, which measures how quickly the page responds to a tap, should stay at 200 milliseconds or less, and CLS, which measures layout shifts during loading, at 0.1 or less.
The usual culprits on sites from the province are oversized product and field photos, autoplay promotional videos on the home page and wide panoramas of the city walls. Our standard fixes:
- Image size: Each photo is exported at its display size in a light format such as WebP, and long galleries load as the visitor scrolls.
- Video: A promotional film shows a preview image first and plays only when tapped.
- Security: An SSL certificate, updated software, regular backups stored off the server, and strong passwords with two step verification on the admin panel.
Server location is a decision too. If most buyers are in Turkey and Iraq, a nearby data center cuts latency. Ask in writing how often backups run and how long a restore takes.
09Sector Examples, From Rice Growers to Mansion Hotels
Each sector in Diyarbakir expects something different from a website, so applying one template to a rice producer and a clinic serves neither. The examples below show what typical businesses in the province need.
- Karacadağ rice and regional produce: Pages that show the growing area around Çınar, Hazro, Çermik or Kocaköy, harvest and packing details and a bulk order form. Check the usage terms of the Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which holds the geographical indication, before using its logo. More on our website for agricultural businesses page.
- Manufacturers selling to Iraq: Arabic product cards, packaging and carton details, technical tables and quotes over WhatsApp.
- Mansion hotels and breakfast houses in Sur: Walking times to the walls and the Great Mosque, how to reach the Ten Eyed Bridge, the nearest parking and an enquiry button on the first phone screen. See our hotel website page.
- Clinics and private practices: Staff, specialties and appointment requests in language that respects Turkey's health promotion rules, with no prices or campaigns. Our website for doctors page covers this.
The Karacadağ basin extends into the neighboring province, so growers there compete for the same buyers; origin details and pack options make the difference. Our web design page for Şanlıurfa describes that side.
A note for health businesses: the Turkish regulation of 12 November 2025 bans the advertising of health services and requires a last updated date and the responsible editor's contact details on the site.
10Legal Basics: KVKK, Cookies and Online Sales Terms
Any Diyarbakir website that collects even a phone number through a form falls under KVKK, Turkey's data protection law No. 6698, and must show an information notice under Article 10. It explains why data is collected, who may receive it and what rights the person has. Place a short link to it directly under each form, next to a clear consent checkbox.
Clinics need extra care, since health data is special category personal data under Article 6. An appointment form should not ask about symptoms or diagnoses, only the fields needed to get in touch. A site selling rice or regional produce online must also show the pre contract information, the distance sales contract, return terms and seller details required by Turkish consumer rules before the payment step.
Use this checklist before launch:
- Information notice: Under every form, written for the data the site actually collects.
- Cookie notice: Non essential tracking stays off until consent is given, and the choice can be changed later.
- Sales terms: Pre contract information, distance sales contract and return policy when you sell online.
- Visitors from Europe: Google requires consent mode for users in the European Economic Area, and EU visitors must consent before non essential tracking.
Pages for buyers in Iraq deserve the same care. An Arabic summary of the legal texts helps, as long as you state which language version is binding.
11Redesigning Without Losing Your Rankings
When a Diyarbakir company replaces a site that has been live for years, the biggest risk is changing addresses Google already knows without a plan. Old pages that have drawn traffic for years on searches such as "Diyarbakir watermelon" or a district name are the first assets to protect.
Our redesign sequence:
- Inventory: List every old address, the pages that bring traffic in Search Console and the pages that receive links from other sites.
- One to one mapping: Match each old address to its closest equivalent on the new site; never send everything to the home page.
- Permanent redirects: Set up the mapping with 301 redirects, which tell Google the page has moved for good.
- Hide the staging site: Protect the test version with a password; Google cannot read a noindex tag on a page blocked in robots.txt, so blocking alone is not enough.
- Post launch monitoring: Watch the error reports in Search Console during the first weeks and fix any missed addresses.
You can compare old and new address lists before launch with our redirect mapping tool. If an Arabic version is being added to a single language site, keeping the existing Turkish addresses unchanged and opening the new language in its own folder makes the move far simpler.
12Common Mistakes on Diyarbakir Business Sites
Most problems on Diyarbakir company sites come from structures built without knowing the buyer, not from visual design. Here are six frequent ones, each with a better alternative:
- Leaving Arabic to machine translation: Wrong product terms cost trust with Iraqi buyers; have a translator who knows the market write the copy and match product names to the terms buyers actually use.
- Running everything through Instagram: Instead of showing products only on social media, publish permanent, searchable product pages and let posts point to them.
- Using the geographical indication without checking: Rather than placing the logo straight away, confirm the chamber's conditions and state the origin clearly in text.
- Forgetting directions for a business in Sur: Do not rely on an embedded map alone; write out vehicle access, the nearest car park and walking time from the city gates.
- Putting the phone number in an image: A number inside a picture cannot be tapped; add click to call and a WhatsApp link as text.
- Ignoring shipping questions: Instead of forcing buyers to message for every detail, answer minimum order, packing and delivery terms in a short FAQ.
Most of these do not require a full rebuild; many can be fixed with content changes alone.
13What Shapes the Scope of a Quote
The cost of a web design project in Diyarbakir is driven by scope, not by the city; our prices are the same for Diyarbakir as for Istanbul. The main factors, framed by what businesses in the province typically need:
- Number and direction of languages: A right to left language such as Arabic needs layout testing, not just translation.
- Product depth: A rice producer with a handful of products and a wholesaler listing hundreds of chemical items do not need the same effort.
- Online sales: A cart, payment gateway and shipping integration widen the scope considerably.
- Integrations: Booking systems, dealer forms or links to existing accounting software require extra development.
- Content preparation: Whether photos and copy come from you or from us changes the proposal directly.
There are smart ways to keep scope lean. You can launch with Turkish and Arabic only and add English when demand appears. Instead of full e-commerce, a simple product page that takes orders over WhatsApp is a fast way to test a market.
Ask for every item to be listed separately in the proposal so you can see which feature drives the budget.
14The First 90 Days and Your Next Step
Launch day is not the finish line; the first 90 days show which pages really bring enquiries. In Diyarbakir this period often overlaps a harvest or the visitor season, which is why measurement must be in place from day one.
- Month one: Search Console and GA4 are monitored, form submissions, calls and WhatsApp taps are counted separately per language, and errors are fixed.
- Month two: The most visited pages and the quote form are improved, and the quality of enquiries from the Arabic pages is reviewed.
- Month three: Decisions on new content, another language or a new district page are made on real data.
Track which language and district each enquiry comes from; if appointment requests from Kayapınar and sample requests from Erbil mix in one report, you cannot tell which page deserves the next round of work.
To decide, first answer the questions in this guide for your own business: where your buyer is, which language they read and what they expect from you. Fixed price packages are listed in our web design pricing section. To plan a video discovery call from Diyarbakir, write to us through our contact page; afterwards we send a written scope and proposal built around your buyers and languages.
