Most people who read an Erzincan business website are somewhere else when they read it. A deli owner in Istanbul checking where a tulum cheese comes from, a hiker in Munich planning a May trip to the Kemaliye festival, a family in the Netherlands looking for a stone house for the summer: each of them meets the business on a screen first and decides there.
Talha Aslan and team wrote this guide for owners who are about to commission a site and want to make the decisions in the right order. Each section covers one decision and gives you something to do with it: a check you can run yourself, questions to put to an agency, or a worked example built around the way Erzincan actually trades.
01Four Jobs a Website Does in Erzincan's Economy
A site in Erzincan should be built for one of the province's distinct economic engines, not for all of them at once. According to TÜİK's provincial accounts for 2024, GDP per person in Erzincan was 394.3 thousand lira, compared with 331.4 thousand in Bayburt and 321.1 thousand in Erzurum. Measured in dollars, the province ranked 31st of Turkey's 81. Customers in the city center can afford to compare, and they expect a presentation that looks cared for.
Income is only part of the picture. The province earns its living in several very different ways, and each one produces a different reader:
- Protected foods: tulum cheese, now a protected designation of origin in the EU, and the Cimin grape of Üzümlü; the reader is a buyer or wholesaler outside the province.
- Nature travel: the Dark Canyon, the Stone Road and Girlevik Waterfall; the reader is a visitor who plans the route weeks ahead.
- The university: students, staff and hospital visitors connected to Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University.
- Local services: clinics, shops, trades and consultancies in the center; the reader compares options on a phone.
In the first meeting we ask owners to name one of these as the main target and at most one as a secondary target. A guesthouse that also sells cheese can split its menu into two clear paths; it should not try to fit both stories onto one home page.
02What People Search for, and When
Searches connected to Erzincan are mostly made with product, place and season names rather than business names. The page plan should therefore start from the words a visitor types, not from the way the company describes itself.
The calendar shapes almost everything. Roughly, the year runs like this:
- May: questions about rooms, transport and the program rise before the Kemaliye Culture and Outdoor Sports Festival.
- Summer: routes, guides and rooms for the Dark Canyon, the Stone Road and rafting on the Euphrates.
- September: the Cimin grape harvest and the arrival of new students fall in the same weeks, so pre orders and searches for dorms and tutoring rise together.
- Winter: the frozen Girlevik Waterfall draws ice climbers, and cooler weather makes cheese shipping easier, so delivery orders pick up.
Try this exercise before any design work. Write down ten searches a customer might type for your product or service, then note which page on your site would answer each one. If "Kemaliye stone house stay", "tulum cheese delivery" or "dentist in Erzincan center" has no matching page, the plan has a gap.
03Hiring a Team Based Outside the Province
Our work with Erzincan businesses runs entirely online, so the partner you choose should be judged on how clearly its process is written down, not on how close its office is. Distance only hurts when decisions are lost in chat threads; when every decision is recorded, it barely matters.
Ask every agency you speak to these questions, and ask for the answers in writing:
- Product knowledge: who will learn how the cheese ripens or when the grape harvest window opens, and turn that into copy?
- Photography: will cellar, vineyard or canyon images come from you, and will you get a shot list?
- Approval: when will you see the design, and is any code written before you sign it off?
- Tracking: where can you see which step the project is on without sending a message?
- Evidence: which live projects are close to food production or accommodation?
For that last question, do not settle for screenshots. Open the live address on your phone, fill in the form, browse a product page and see how it behaves on a weak connection. You can review our own live work on our client projects page; it includes a livestock and meat business and hotel sites, though none of them is in Erzincan.
04Who Owns the Domain, Hosting and Accounts
The business should own the site and every account connected to it, and that rule belongs in the contract before work starts. Family run dairies and vineyards are where this most often slips.
Picture a common situation: the domain was registered years ago on a younger relative's personal account, that relative now works in another city and never sees the renewal notices. One missed renewal in the middle of the season means the site goes dark when orders matter most. At handover, check the following:
- Domain: the registrant should be the business, and renewal notices should go to a shared company inbox.
- Hosting: you should be able to log in to the control panel with your own admin password and see in writing where backups are stored and how often they run.
- Code and content: files and database must be deliverable in full on request, and any paid plugin licenses should state whose name they are in.
- Payment and shipping: the card payment account and courier agreements should be opened directly in the name of the business.
- Measurement: Search Console, GA4 and the Google Business Profile should live in your accounts, with the agency added only as a user.
On handover day we open this list together on a video call: you log in to each panel with your own password and see your access level on screen. It takes a few minutes and spares you a recovery process that can drag on for weeks.
05The Online Project Process, Step by Step
What keeps a remote project calm and quick is knowing exactly what was approved at the end of each step. With a producer or guesthouse in Erzincan, the sequence looks like this:
- Discovery call: on video we talk through your product, guests or customers, your current site and the competitors you watch.
- Written scope: the page list, languages, sales or booking flow and delivery schedule arrive in the proposal in writing.
- Content and shot list: we list the documents and the cellar, vineyard or room photos we need from you, and files go into a shared folder.
- Design draft: you open the draft in a browser and leave comments directly on the relevant area; development waits for your approval.
- Build and testing: forms, payments, shipping options and the WhatsApp line are tested on several phones.
- Launch and training: after launch we show you on video how to use the admin panel, for example how to post a harvest announcement.
Every step is visible in our CRM, so you never need to call anyone to find out where things stand. If business brings you to Istanbul, we are happy to meet by appointment at our office in Ataşehir, but no part of the project depends on that visit.
06Showing Up in Local Search in Erzincan
Local visibility rests on a Google Business Profile filled with accurate details and a website that matches it. Adding keywords such as "finest tulum cheese Erzincan" to the profile name breaks Google's guidelines; the business name must match the name on the sign and the official registration.
When setting up the profile and the site together, check these points:
- Category: choose the one that describes the core business, such as cheese producer, guesthouse or rafting company, and keep secondary categories for services you really offer.
- Address: a guide working from home in Kemaliye can hide the address and define a service area; a guesthouse that receives guests should show its address.
- Photos: add images that change with the season, such as the frozen waterfall in winter and the canyon road in summer.
- Hours: seasonal businesses should show their closed months the same way on the profile and on the site.
Use district names with restraint. Building nine near identical pages for Merkez, Tercan, Üzümlü, Refahiye, İliç, Çayırlı, Kemah, Kemaliye and Otlukbeli creates what search engines treat as doorway pages. Instead, describe only the places you really serve, with details that belong to each: transport and canyon routes on a Kemaliye page, vineyards and harvest timing on an Üzümlü page.
If customers in neighboring provinces order from you, for instance businesses and buyers in Erzurum, a clear note on the delivery page is enough. Longer term search work can be planned separately through our SEO service.
07When a Second Language Earns Its Keep
A second language pays off when a specific group of readers actually arrives; a version added to look international usually goes stale. In Erzincan, three situations create that reader.
The first is the protected status. On 26 May 2025 the European Commission registered Erzincan tulum cheese as a protected designation of origin, the 35th Turkish product on the EU list. An importer or specialty shop in Europe researching it will look for an origin page in English or German. The second is nature travel: the Dark Canyon and Girlevik also attract foreign hikers and climbers. The third is families from Erzincan who live abroad, many of them in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, ordering food from home or looking for a summer house.
Before you add a language, answer these questions honestly:
- Did you receive enquiries, e-mails or calls in that language over the past year?
- Is someone able to reply in that language within two working days?
- Can your shipping or booking flow really serve a customer abroad?
If the answers are yes, translate the origin, product, travel and contact pages first rather than the whole site. Language versions should reference each other and themselves through hreflang annotations, and machine translation should never go live unedited. If you collect data from visitors in the European Economic Area, plan for cookie consent before any non essential tracking runs; Google also requires consent mode for its measurement and personalized advertising features there.
08Speed on Mobile Data, Hosting and Security
An Erzincan site should be light enough to load on a phone with a weak signal on the canyon road. If a visitor heading to Kemaliye looks up your guesthouse on the way, a heavy home page sends them straight to another option.
We measure speed against Google's Core Web Vitals thresholds, which should be met for at least 75 percent of visits:
- LCP: how long the largest element takes to appear; 2.5 seconds or less.
- INP: how quickly the page responds to a tap; 200 milliseconds or less.
- CLS: how much content shifts while loading; 0.1 or less.
The usual culprit is cellar and landscape photography uploaded straight from a phone. A waterfall photo that is not resized to its display size and converted to a modern format will slow the page down no matter how simple the rest of the layout is. You can measure your current site with our mobile friendly test before we even talk.
On security, expect a valid SSL certificate, automatic backups stored away from the main server, plugins that are kept updated and spam protection on every form. For a producer taking orders, every enquiry should land in both the inbox and the CRM, so a failure in one channel never loses an order.
09Page Structures for Erzincan's Sectors
Each sector needs a structure built around the moment it makes a sale. These are the four most common in Erzincan:
Tulum cheese producers: an origin page should tell the story of a sheep's milk cheese ripened for at least four months, with photos from the cellar. Product pages need weights, storage instructions and which provinces cold chain shipping reaches and how fast. Delis and grocers should get a separate trade enquiry form, kept apart from the retail cart. We cover the producer structure in more depth on our page on websites for farms and food producers.
Vineyards in Üzümlü: the Cimin grape was registered as a geographical indication in 2002, with Üzümlü Municipality as the holder. A pre order page that opens a few weeks before harvest, stock updates in season and a link to saruç and raisins out of season keep the page working all year. As the range grows, an e-commerce setup brings payments and shipping into one panel.
Around Kemaliye and Girlevik: stone houses, guesthouses and rafting operators need room pages, a route map, seasonal notes and an enquiry form. Tent and caravan sites can borrow the structure on our campsite website page.
Near the campus: dorms, tutoring centers, cafés and clinics are well served by a few light pages with location and opening hours on the first screen, updated with the academic calendar.
10Data Protection, Cookies and Distance Selling Rules
The legal base for any site with a form in Turkey is KVKK, Law No. 6698: under Article 10, a business collecting personal data must provide an information notice. Every enquiry form, pre order list or newsletter signup should link to it.
A producer selling online to Turkish consumers also has obligations under the Distance Contracts Regulation. These are the points we check:
- Information before purchase: under Article 5, the buyer must be told about the seller, the product, the total price, delivery and withdrawal terms before the contract is concluded.
- Right of withdrawal: as a rule, consumers may withdraw within fourteen days without giving a reason; the period and how to use it should be stated plainly.
- Perishable goods: Article 15 excludes goods that spoil quickly or may pass their expiry date from the right of withdrawal; a cheese seller should explain this clearly on product and contract pages.
- Cookies: visitors should be informed about analytics and advertising cookies and given a real choice for non essential ones.
Protected name labels need their own care. The right to use the EU origin logo on a product or website depends on production that follows the specification and on inspection. Without documents showing that right, we recommend describing the cheese by its regional character rather than its registration. Having a lawyer review the final texts is always sensible.
11Redesigning Without Losing Search History
The real risk in a redesign is not the look but the loss of addresses that have built up search value over the years. If an Erzincan producer's "order tulum cheese" page or a guesthouse's "how to get to Kemaliye" article is deleted without a replacement, its traffic leaves with it.
This is the order we follow on redesign projects:
- We list every address on the old site together with the pages that earn clicks and impressions in Search Console.
- We assign each old address a match on the new site and point any without a match to the closest topic.
- We set those matches up as 301 redirects and test them one by one on the staging site before launch.
- On launch day we submit the sitemap in Search Console and watch the error reports in the following weeks.
Our redirect mapping tool helps when building the match list. Seasonal pages follow an extra rule: the Cimin grape pre order page is not reopened at a new address each year but updated at the same one, so the visibility earned last harvest carries over to the next.
12Common Mistakes on Erzincan Business Sites
The same handful of problems keeps appearing on local sites we review, and each has a better alternative:
- Hidden shipping details: the cheese page says nothing about cold chain or delivery time; state right under the product which provinces you ship to and on what terms.
- Deleting pages after the season: the pre order page disappears when harvest ends; keep it live with the expected timing of the next harvest and the products sold all year.
- Accommodation without routes: room photos but no distances to the canyon, the Stone Road or the waterfall; add nearby routes and a transport note to every room page.
- Relying on one Instagram account: a campus business that exists only on social media; build a light site showing location and hours and link the account to it.
- Using the registration without proof: logos or protected name claims added without inspection documents; without them, describe the product by its regional qualities, plainly.
- Copied district pages: the same text duplicated for nine districts; open pages only for places you serve, each with local detail.
13What Shapes the Scope of Web Design in Erzincan
Our prices do not change by province; what shapes the scope of web design in Erzincan is the job the site has to do. These are the main factors that widen it:
- Sales flow: a site with an enquiry form and a shop that manages payments, stock and shipping zones are different projects.
- Seasonal structure: pre orders, season opening and closing pages and dated announcements need extra setup.
- Number of languages: every language version means translation, review and hreflang setup.
- Content writing: having us write the origin story, route articles and product copy expands the scope.
- Integrations: payment providers, couriers, booking engines and CRM connections are separate items.
Phasing is the practical way to manage scope. A dairy might launch first with an origin page, a product list and a trade enquiry form, then add an online cart in a second phase. That way the site grows on real demand data, and each new feature rests on observation rather than guesswork.
14The First 90 Days and Your Next Step
The first three months after launch are when you see how the site is really used and correct course. This is the plan we suggest for Erzincan businesses:
- Days 1 to 30: confirm that Search Console and GA4 data flows correctly and that forms, calls and WhatsApp clicks are measured separately.
- Days 31 to 60: review the most visited pages and the questions customers ask most; update pages where the answer is missing.
- Days 61 to 90: refresh the page for the coming season, such as the May festival or the September harvest, before demand begins.
By the end of the three months you will have a clear view of which searches arrive, from which districts and in which months. Deciding on the next investment, whether a second language or online sales, is far easier with that view in front of you.
When you are ready, there are two ways to start. You can review fixed scope packages and online purchase on our web design pricing section. If you would rather talk through your product, your season and your buyers, book a short video call through our contact form, and we will follow up with a written scope and proposal.
