In short

Web design in Gumushane has to serve buyers ordering pestil, köme and rosehip products from outside the province, visitors coming for caves and skiing, and local customers searching by district. Karaca Cave in Torul welcomed 114,077 visitors in 2025. Talha Aslan and team plan product stories, shipping details and seasonal pages from the start and run Gumushane projects online with a written scope.

Gumushane's economic profile

What should a website do for a business in Gumushane?

According to TÜİK's 2024 provincial GDP data, Gumushane produced 41.875 billion lira of output, and GDP per capita rose to 8,757 US dollars, up 26.6 percent in dollar terms in a single year. Behind that growth are protected food specialities, a trade road shortened by the Zigana Tunnel, cave and ski tourism and a university spread across the districts.

Pestil and köme, the signature products

Gumushane mulberry pestil and köme have been registered as geographical indications since 2004. According to Anadolu Agency, around 90 percent of the pestil and köme made in Turkey comes from Gumushane, where 30 producers turn out about 5,000 tonnes a year. Most buyers live outside the province, so a site that explains ingredients, method, shelf life and shipping shows what sets the original apart from imitations.

The Zigana Tunnel and the road to Trabzon and Erzurum

The 14.5 kilometre New Zigana Tunnel between Torul and Maçka in Trabzon opened on 3 May 2023. Anadolu Agency reports 1.77 million vehicles in its first year and a time saving of around 60 minutes for heavy vehicles. Hauliers moving cargo between Trabzon, Bayburt and Erzurum, and roadside businesses serving them, now reach more travellers with clear service and location pages.

Karaca Cave and the Zigana ski centre

Karaca Cave, in the village of Cebeli in Torul, is open from April to November and welcomed 114,077 visitors in 2025, according to Anadolu Agency. The Zigana winter sports centre, also in Torul, lies 3 kilometres from the tunnel on a road kept open all year. Stays and restaurants that host cave visitors in summer and skiers in winter need separate pages for each season.

A university spread across the districts

Gumushane University started the 2024 and 2025 academic year with 23,179 students, including 2,391 international students from 70 countries, and runs vocational schools in Kelkit, Şiran, Torul, Kürtün and Köse as well. Course centres, student housing, cafés and service firms can reach students by district name, and international students with a short English page.

How we work

Working with Gumushane from Trabzon, Frankfurt or London

We have no office, representative or field team in Gumushane, and we make that clear in the first call. Pestil makers, guesthouse owners in Torul and service firms in Kelkit, together with their partners and relatives abroad, work with us over video in English or Turkish, sharing product lists, texts and approvals through our CRM. You can meet us at Nida Kule in Ataşehir when you are in Istanbul, but the project moves ahead without it.

Talha Aslan sets the strategy; experienced team members handle design, development and content. For Gumushane food producers the product page is usually what decides the sale: if the layers of pestil, the cross section of köme and the share of walnut and honey are not visible in photo and text, a buyer far away cannot tell the difference. So we list the images and facts each product needs before any design starts.

  • Discovery call and design review over video
  • Products, seasons and page list agreed in writing
  • A product photo guide from day one
  • No development before the design is approved
  • A meeting at our Ataşehir office if you are in Istanbul

Process

From brief to launch in four steps

  1. Discovery and scope

We define your business, your audience and the site’s one-sentence job: who it sells what to, through which action. Scope and timeline are written from that answer.

  2. Design approval

The home page and key templates come to you as designs first; no code is written before your approval. We do not like surprises, and we do not cause them.

  3. Development

The approved design becomes fast, secure, maintainable code. You follow progress in the CRM and see every page in a staging environment before launch.

  4. Launch and measurement

The site goes live with analytics, Search Console and conversion tracking connected; panel training is given, first-year hosting and maintenance included.

In-depth guide

Web Design Gumushane: Sites for Pestil Buyers, Visitors and Students

Talha Aslan and teamLast updated: 15 min read

Most people who open a Gumushane business website are not in Gumushane. They are a family in Istanbul or Germany ordering pestil from home, a group from Trabzon planning a ski weekend at Zigana, or an international student about to move to a campus in Kelkit. Good web design in Gumushane starts from that fact: the site has to work for someone who cannot drop by the shop.

We are Talha Aslan and team, and this guide is written for producers, guesthouses, restaurants and service businesses in the province that are planning a new website or a rebuild. Each section covers one decision in the order you will face it, with questions to put to any agency, checks you can run yourself and lists you can prepare before the first call.

What a Website Has to Earn in Gumushane

A website in Gumushane should be tied to one of four income streams: food products sold outside the province, services along the Zigana route, seasonal visitors and the university population. According to TÜİK provincial GDP data for 2024, output per person in Gumushane rose 26.6 percent in dollar terms in a single year to 8,757 dollars, slightly ahead of Erzurum at 25.9 percent and Trabzon at 24 percent.

A growing local economy brings more customers and more competitors at the same time, so the site has to state clearly why a buyer should choose you. Before you brief anyone, write short answers to these questions:

  • Where the money comes from: What share of revenue arrives by parcel, through wholesalers, or from visitors who come in person?
  • When demand peaks: Harvest, cave season, snow, or the start of the academic year?
  • How much there is to show: How many products, rooms or services need their own page?
  • What proves your claims: Which certificates, photos and customer reviews do you already have?

These answers decide the page list. A köme workshop that ships mostly to relatives abroad needs a strong shipping and shelf life page more than a polished home page. A restaurant in Torul needs directions, parking and opening hours above everything else.

Search Intent Around Gumushane Through the Year

Most searches connected to Gumushane name a product, a natural landmark or a campus rather than the province itself. That is why the page plan should follow a search calendar, because the same business meets very different visitors across twelve months.

  • Gift season and winter: Buyers outside the province search for terms like "mulberry pestil order" or "köme delivery"; product pages, delivery times and an order button should be live well before.
  • September and October: The rosehip harvest brings searches for jam, tea and dried fruit; a harvest page needs to be indexed before the first jars are ready.
  • April to November: While Karaca Cave is open, families look for places to stay and eat nearby in Torul.
  • Snow season: Groups heading to the Zigana ski center ask about rooms, equipment rental and road conditions.
  • Early September: Part of Gumushane University's 23,179 students look for housing, courses and cafes, many of them in English.

Here is a simple exercise. Draw a twelve month grid for your business and write next to each month who might be searching for you and which words they would type. Busy months tell you when a page must already be online; quiet months are the right time to write content and refresh photos.

Hiring a Web Team Based Outside the Province

We work with Gumushane businesses entirely online, so choose a partner by how clearly it documents its process, not by how close its office is. In a remote project, trust comes from a written scope, recorded approvals and regular video calls instead of handshakes.

Ask every agency you talk to the following questions, and ask for written answers:

  • Live examples: Do you have a live site for a food producer or a guesthouse that I can open on my phone right now?
  • Photography: Who takes the product photos, and will you give me a shot list I can follow?
  • Scope: Does the quote list every page, every language and the exact order or booking flow?
  • Visibility: Where can I see progress without waiting for an e-mail?
  • Contact person: Who explains technical decisions to me in plain language?

You can review our live work before the first call. To be upfront, none of those projects is in Gumushane; the closest matches are food, hospitality and logistics sites in other provinces. A remote team is not a disadvantage in itself, but a team that avoids putting answers in writing is a warning sign. Any promise that is not in the quote is likely to become a dispute at handover.

Keep the Domain, Hosting and Accounts in Your Name

Every digital asset behind the site should be registered to your business, with the agency added only as an authorized user. In family run businesses it is easy for accounts to end up under a cousin's address or a former designer's login, which turns a simple renewal into a problem years later.

  • Domain: Registered to the company or its owner, with the renewal date in your own calendar.
  • Hosting: Invoiced in your name, with the control panel password stored on your side as well.
  • Code and design files: Handed over at launch, with usage rights spelled out in the contract.
  • Google accounts: You are the owner in Search Console, GA4 and Google Business Profile; the agency is added as a manager.
  • Business e-mail: Addresses on your domain stay under your control rather than forwarding to someone's private inbox.

A quick check you can run today: look up the registration record of your domain, open the user list in Search Console and write down who is listed as owner. Add the WhatsApp number that takes pestil orders to the same list. If it sits on an employee's personal phone, the order history leaves with that person; a company line with a WhatsApp Business account closes that gap.

From First Video Call to Launch in Six Steps

A project for a Gumushane business runs in six steps without anyone traveling, and each step ends with a written approval you can refer back to.

  1. Discovery call: On video we talk about your products, your season and where your buyers live.
  2. Written scope: Page list, languages, order or inquiry flow and deliverables arrive in a single document.
  3. Content and shot list: We list the photos and facts needed for each product or room and describe how to take each shot with a phone.
  4. Design review: We walk through a home page and one product page together; nothing is coded before you approve.
  5. Build and testing: The site goes up on a test address, you try it on your phone and log corrections in our CRM.
  6. Launch and handover: The domain is connected, tracking is set up, and access details plus a short recorded walkthrough are handed over.

If you happen to be in Istanbul during the project, you are welcome to meet us at our office in Ataşehir, but no step depends on that meeting. Sending photos, approving copy and testing all happen remotely.

For a business in Kelkit or Şiran, this means a calendar with fixed dates rather than scattered messages. If there is a date you cannot miss, such as the start of harvest or the cave opening, mention it on the first call and we plan backward from it.

Local SEO from Merkez to Köse Without Doorway Pages

Local SEO rests on showing where you actually are and whom you actually serve, consistently everywhere; six near identical pages for six districts do not replace that. TÜİK figures for 2025 show that two thirds of the province's 138,807 residents live in Merkez and Kelkit, while businesses in Şiran, Torul, Kürtün and Köse also serve travelers on the road and visitors heading to natural sites.

A short checklist for Google Business Profile:

  • Name: Use the name on your sign; adding product or place keywords breaks Google's guidelines.
  • Category: Pick the primary category for the activity that earns the most; a pestil workshop and a restaurant do not share one.
  • Address or service area: If customers do not visit you, hide the address and define a service area instead.
  • Hours and photos: Keep opening hours current as they change between cave season and ski season.

Think of real search examples such as "Kelkit tutoring center", "breakfast near Tomara Waterfall" or "guesthouse near Zigana". The page that answers them is not text that repeats a district name, but a genuine information page with directions, distances and the months you are open. Your name, address and phone number must match character for character on the site and the profile. For deeper content and technical work, our SEO service sets out a separate plan.

When an English or German Version Pays Off

A second language makes sense for a Gumushane business only when it has foreign buyers or foreign guests. The clearest audience is the university: in the 2024 and 2025 academic year, 2,391 international students from 70 countries were enrolled at Gumushane University. For housing, language courses or student meals, a short English page can bring in customers directly.

Use these criteria before committing to a second language:

  • Evidence of demand: Have you received messages, calls or reviews in another language in recent months?
  • Capacity to reply: Can someone on your team answer an English inquiry within a day?
  • Page selection: Translating services, location, contact and FAQ pages is often enough; the whole site rarely needs it.
  • Technical setup: Each language version should point to itself and to the others with hreflang tags, and translation should not be left to an automatic plugin.

The diaspora is a different case. A family from Gumushane living in Germany or the Netherlands will usually read your site in Turkish, so a German version matters less than a clear line on whether you ship abroad. If you do, name the countries and typical delivery times; if you do not, say so plainly.

Fast Pages on Mountain Roads, Secure Behind the Scenes

Many visitors open a Gumushane site while on the road, often on a weak mobile signal along the Zigana route, so pages need to respond within seconds. Google's Core Web Vitals give clear targets: LCP, which measures how long the main content takes to load, should be 2.5 seconds or less; INP, which measures how fast the page reacts to a tap, 200 milliseconds or less; CLS, which measures how much the layout jumps while loading, 0.1 or less.

Steps that move a site toward those targets:

  • Images: Convert pestil and rosehip photos to a light format such as WebP; our image converter does this in the browser.
  • Galleries: Load cave and ski photos only as they scroll into view, and keep the first screen to a single image.
  • Hosting: Use a server close to visitors in Turkey, with regular backups stored off the server.
  • Security: An SSL certificate, updated software and two factor login for the admin panel from day one.

To see where your current site stands, start with our mobile friendly test, then confirm the result on your own phone with wireless switched off and mobile data on.

Page Structures from Pestil Workshops to Zigana Guesthouses

The mix of businesses in Gumushane calls for a different page skeleton per sector; dressing everyone in the same template loses both the buyer and the guest.

  • Pestil and köme producers: One page per product with ingredients, weight, storage and shelf life; a page showing how the sheets of dried mulberry pulp and the walnut sweets are made; a separate wholesale form. With roughly 90 percent of Turkey's pestil and köme coming from this province, what sets you apart is how you explain the product.
  • Rosehip and highland produce: Seventeen of the 27 rosehip species growing wild in Turkey are found in the province, which is strong material for a story; a farm business website with a harvest calendar and the village of origin fits well.
  • Stays in Torul and Zigana: Separate summer and winter galleries and room pages, distances to the cave and the slopes; see our hotel website page for detail.
  • Roadside service and freight: The new Zigana Tunnel carried 1.77 million vehicles in its first year; for tire, repair and rest stop businesses, location, hours and click to call are a solid start.

Producers who want card payments and stock control can plan an online store as a separate project. Businesses at the other end of the tunnel are covered on our web design Trabzon page.

Turkish Privacy Law, Cookies and Distance Selling Terms

Any site with an order form or a WhatsApp button collects personal data, so the legal texts have to be ready before launch. Article 10 of Turkey's personal data protection law, KVKK (Law No. 6698), requires you to inform people when you collect their data, which in practice means an information notice linked right next to each form.

  • Information notice: State which data you collect, why, and who receives it; the courier and the payment provider belong on that list.
  • Cookie notice: Run analytics and advertising cookies only after the visitor agrees; for visitors from the EU, Google also expects consent mode for measurement and ad personalization.
  • Distance selling: If you sell by card online, the pre contract information, sales contract and return terms must be readable during checkout.
  • Product facts: Ingredients and allergen details on the product page must match the label exactly.

Perishable food may fall under exceptions to the right of withdrawal; confirm with your legal adviser which of your products are affected. Gumushane mulberry pestil and köme have been registered as geographical indications since 2004, but use of the indication and its emblem follows the registration rules, so show it only on products you know qualify. Treat this section as a general frame and finalize the texts with your adviser.

Rebuilding a Site Without Losing Search Visibility

The biggest risk in a redesign is losing old URLs: if a product page that appears for "Gumushane pestil" moves to a new address without a redirect, much of that visibility can disappear.

  1. Inventory: Export every page that received clicks in Search Console over the last twelve months.
  2. Mapping: Write the new address for each old one in a sheet; where there is no direct match, choose the closest topic.
  3. Permanent redirects: Set up 301 redirects on launch day and test each one by hand.
  4. Content retention: Do not delete text that ranks; update and extend it.
  5. Monitoring: Check the not found report in Search Console every week for the first four weeks.

There is one more trap: blocking the test site in robots.txt and forgetting to lift the block at launch. Google cannot read a noindex tag on a page that robots.txt blocks; to keep a page out of the index, leave it crawlable and add noindex.

Timing matters for seasonal businesses too. A guesthouse in Torul should launch its new site in a quiet month, not in the middle of cave season, so there is room to fix problems before the next wave of guests.

Six Mistakes to Avoid on Gumushane Business Sites

Most problems that can appear on Gumushane business sites come from ignoring the buyer outside the province and the seasonal rhythm, not from design. Each item below comes with the better alternative:

  • Every product on one page: Instead of listing pestil, köme and rosehip in one block, give each product its own page with original copy.
  • No shipping details: Instead of "message us", state dispatch days, packaging and storage advice for warm months.
  • Last season's photos: Instead of showing the cave, which closes in November, on the winter page, use photos that match each season.
  • Careless use of the geographical indication: Instead of placing the emblem on every product, show it only where the registration conditions are met.
  • Copied district pages: Instead of duplicating one text for six districts, list the places you really serve on a single page.
  • Social media only: Instead of taking orders solely through direct messages, use product pages and forms that search engines can find and you can track.

The common thread is treating the site like a printed brochure. Demand in Gumushane changes with the seasons, so the site should change with them; a few short updates spread across the year do more than a large rebuild every few years.

Decisions That Expand or Simplify the Scope

Scope, not location, sets the budget; a workshop in Gumushane and a company in Istanbul choose from the same packages. The main decisions that enlarge a quote are these:

  • Online sales: Card payment, stock, courier integration and legal texts are a separate block of work.
  • Number of products: Each product page needs original copy, edited photos and structured data.
  • Languages: English pages add translation, editing and technical setup.
  • Booking requests: Room availability or group reservation forms take more work than a simple contact form.
  • Integrations: Connections to accounting software, a courier panel or a CRM each need their own testing.

Some decisions simplify the scope. You can take orders by WhatsApp and form in the first year and add a full store once demand is clear. Shooting your own photos from our shot list, or drafting the copy yourself for us to edit, also reduces the workload.

What matters is that anything postponed is designed so it can be added later; we note this in the written scope, so adding a store or an English version in year two does not mean rebuilding the site.

The First 90 Days and Your Next Step

A website is not finished on launch day; the first 90 days show which pages actually bring orders and guests. We suggest splitting that period into clear checkpoints:

  • First 30 days: Fix pages Search Console has not indexed and any errors, and connect Google Business Profile to the site.
  • Second month: In GA4, separate orders and inquiries by source and track WhatsApp clicks on their own.
  • Third month: Update the product or room page with the most visits and publish the page for the coming season.

Watch trends rather than single numbers in this period. Are rosehip orders from Istanbul growing, and which page sends course inquiries from Kelkit? Those answers show where the next investment belongs.

To make a decision, answer the four questions from the first section and fill in your twelve month search grid.

Our fixed packages are listed under web design pricing. For a short video call from Gumushane, write to us through our contact page, and we will reply with a written scope and quote shaped around your products, your guests and your season.
