This guide is for trades, haulers, practices, care services, food businesses and neighborhood shops in Herne, and for international companies that sell to this city, that want an account that works instead of one that merely exists. Social media management Herne has to meet people at the moment they decide: a neighbor two streets away, a day visitor at the fair, a hospital or warehouse employee, a seminar guest.
Talha Aslan and team run this work fully online. Below we go through the audience, the calendar, languages, production setup, rules and the first 90 days in order, and every section ends with something concrete you can do this week.
01Who the audience in Herne is and what they look for
Most people who open your account in Herne live very close to you and compare several businesses within the same minute. According to Destatis, 155,851 people live on 51 square kilometers, so a competitor is often only a few streets away. For social media management Herne, the first question is therefore not "how many people will see this" but "what does the person looking want to know right now".
Four typical groups, and the question each one asks:
- Neighborhood customer: lives in Sodingen, Eickel, Wanne or Herne Mitte and wants opening hours, a free appointment slot and a phone number.
- Day visitor: comes for the fair, the Christmas market or a cultural event and looks for a snack, parking, a taxi and the route.
- Professionals and employers: people in health care, logistics and training look at job posts, the team and the organization behind the name.
- Turkish speaking neighbor: asks short questions in Turkish, usually on WhatsApp.
One step for today: sort the last ten messages or calls you received into these four groups. The group that never writes to you shows where your content line has a gap.
02Which platform suits which business
Platform choice follows what the customer wants to know at that moment, not the type of company. In Herne a practical split looks like this: Instagram is the shop window and short video, WhatsApp is the conversation itself, the Google profile is for people who find you in search, and LinkedIn is for employers and business customers. We keep the scope written down in our social media management service from the start.
- Instagram: the main storefront for trades, hair salons, butchers, snack stands and practices; Reels for discovery, stories for same day information, highlights for permanent facts.
- Facebook: still an option for neighborhood groups and event announcements, and useful for older and middle aged customers of local shops.
- TikTok: for businesses that can show a process, a preparation or a working day; an extra burden for businesses that mainly take appointments by message.
- LinkedIn: haulage, warehouses, care services and technical firms use it for team, job posts and credibility.
- WhatsApp Business: turns repeated phone questions into ready replies; it is a service channel, not an advertising channel.
You do not need all of them at once. For the first three months one main channel, a WhatsApp line and the Google profile are enough for most neighborhood businesses; add a second channel only when you can feed the first one regularly.
03Local calendar: fair, Advent, culture and market days
The content calendar in Herne is built around a handful of clear peaks, and preparation for each starts weeks ahead. The Cranger Kirmes opens in early August every year and runs for eleven days; in Advent the Cranger Weihnachtszauber takes over the same grounds, the Herne Christmas market fills Bahnhofstraße in the center, and Schloss Strünkede hosts an Advent festival. Exact dates change from year to year, so we start from the official calendars.
- Six weeks before the fair: collect special hours, route and parking information and update the hours in the Google profile.
- Four weeks before: prepare three or four story templates so that on the day you only change the time and status.
- During the event: answer messages and publish short stories at busy hours.
- Afterwards: slow the rhythm down and show regular customers calm, neighborhood focused posts.
The Flottmann Hallen and the LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture bring steady visitors all year, and the weekly markets in Herne Mitte and Wanne Mitte are natural content moments for market traders. Our page on Gelsenkirchen describes a similar Ruhr calendar and helps businesses with customers in both cities.
04District stories: Wanne, Eickel, Herne Mitte, Sodingen
A strong Herne account carries the district, not just the city name. The city is divided into four districts, Wanne, Eickel, Herne Mitte and Sodingen, which contain neighborhoods such as Crange, Röhlinghausen, Holsterhausen, Horsthausen and Börnig. People tag and search with these names.
A district story has three ingredients: real street and shop front pictures, the people who work there, and a concrete problem solved on site. An electrician finishing a panel upgrade in Sodingen, a barber on a Saturday morning in Eickel or a butcher's preparation hours in Wanne make good material.
- Use a location tag only for districts where you really work; tagging places you do not serve costs trust.
- Feature one district per month and refresh your hours or access information for it in a story.
- Share a customer's comment or photo only with permission, and name them and their district only if they agree.
- Do not build expectations on hashtag numbers; district, service and language are chosen together.
Every district has its own rhythm. Bahnhofstraße carries shopping and Christmas market traffic in Herne Mitte, the fairgrounds and the main station Wanne-Eickel shape the crowd in Wanne, and in Sodingen the Akademie Mont Cenis brings seminar guests. A social media management Herne plan writes these differences into the calendar.
05How remotely managed content production works
Even when the team is far away, production happens in your business, and that is a workflow rather than a limit. We have no office, representative or employee in Herne and we never pretend to have a local crew. You or a photographer you choose do the filming; we prepare the shot list, formats, templates and German and Turkish caption drafts.
- On a video call we agree the goal of the month and the jobs to feature.
- We send you a shot list: how many frames, which angle, which short sentence.
- You or your photographer collect the material on one working day; a phone is often enough.
- We select, edit, write captions and place everything in the calendar.
- We get your written approval before anything goes live; the accounts stay with you and we receive only the official access roles of the platforms.
Writing light, background and sound into the shot list reduces the need for a second shoot. For a plumber it might read: the situation before the job, a close up during the work, the finished result and two sentences of feedback from the customer, if they agree. You choose the photographer; we pass the list on and review the result with you.
06Comments, messages and handling criticism
In good social media management Herne, message handling is not there to prolong a chat but to move the right person to the right next step. In Herne many questions arrive at the busiest hour, when the owner is at the counter or on site and the reply slips to the next day. We therefore split replies into three levels.
- Ready reply: short texts we write with you for opening hours, address, parking and appointments.
- Handoff: for price, quotes and bookings, where you decide, the customer is sent to your phone or WhatsApp line.
- Alert: a complaint, a threat or a health related statement is forwarded to you immediately.
We do not use stock sentences for comment replies; a German comment gets a German answer, a Turkish comment a Turkish one, each written for that comment. With negative feedback we read first, verify what happened with you, keep the public answer short and move details to the phone. Abusive or threatening comments are reported through the platform and a screenshot is kept. You make the final call in a crisis; we draft and speed up.
Write ready replies in a human voice: greeting, direct answer, one pointer ("You can reach us on this number for an appointment"), and never ask for personal or health details.
07Google profile and local reviews
When someone searches for a barber or electrician near them in Herne, opening hours, photos and stars can matter more than a social post. Google's guidelines for business profiles say the business name must match the real world name, without added keywords. Your profile and your Instagram bio should show the same hours, address and phone number.
- Put special hours for fair and Advent both in the profile and in a Google post.
- Add real work photos; prefer your team and workshop over stock images.
- Reply to every review, positive or negative, in the language it was written in and with a personal sentence.
- Asking customers for reviews is fine; buying them or writing fake ones is not.
Buying reviews breaks platform rules and counts as an unfair commercial practice; only real customer experience adds lasting value. A small weekly routine is enough: check the hours on Monday, publish one update or event post per week, and answer new reviews during the day. A café in Sodingen could announce the weekly lunch menu with a photo; a taxi or guesthouse in Wanne would post its special fair hours. When profile and account tell the same story, social media management Herne starts to show up in search as well.
08Languages: when to use German, Turkish or English
Language choice in Herne is not one rule but a decision based on who writes to your business. The integration profile of the state of NRW shows that 33.8 percent of Herne residents have an immigration history and that people with Turkish citizenship make up 27.0 percent of the population without German citizenship. This does not mean every business needs a Turkish account, but if you have Turkish speaking customers, they deserve a line written for them.
- German: lead language for authorities, business customers, job posts and the general neighborhood.
- Turkish: short posts and stories written separately for Turkish speaking customers in the district; they must not feel like a translation.
- English: short lines for international professionals, seminar participants and logistics customers abroad.
A practical rule: instead of stacking two languages in one caption, split the important content into two posts, or use separate story frames per language. Sensitive details such as prices and appointment rules must be the same in every language; the Turkish line must never promise something different from the German one.
Agree on the form of address as well: Sie in German for a broad audience, and a warm but respectful tone in Turkish. Search terms differ by language, so think of hashtags and location tags per line.
09Sector examples from Herne
The same method takes different shapes in different sectors, and the focus comes from the city's economy. The city says that more than 8,000 people work in medicine and health and that logistics has added over 1,000 jobs since 2017; Marien Hospital Herne is a university hospital of Ruhr University.
- Logistics and haulage: team, vehicles and warehouse day content plus job posts for drivers and warehouse staff; see social media for logistics companies for the structure.
- Practices and care: information instead of advertising; team, process, hygiene and frequent questions. Advertising for health services in Germany is limited by professional law and the Heilmittelwerbegesetz; details at social media for medical centers.
- Trades and car workshops: finished jobs, workflow and a promise of same day replies, with written consent from anyone shown.
- Food and neighborhood shops: menu, hours and route. The Akademie Mont Cenis in Sodingen, with 171 rooms and about 1,200 training events a year, means lunch time visitors for nearby cafés and restaurants.
These examples are not client references; we do not yet manage a social media account in Herne and we say so openly.
10Working with local creators and ad labels
If you plan to work with a creator, know from the start that in Germany anything that counts as advertising must be clearly recognizable. Posts made for money, products or another benefit fall under § 5a UWG and the labeling guide of the Medienanstalten. The label goes into the post itself and into every story frame, not just at the end of a caption.
- Write the ad label, the account name and the publishing date into the brief.
- Look at the creator's audience: real followers in and around Herne, real conversation, real comments.
- Settle usage rights in writing; if the creator uses your footage or you use theirs, note the period and the channel.
- Never ask for a positive review from someone who has not tried the product or service; that is an unfair commercial practice.
Even a free service, a discount or a gift can count as a benefit, so when in doubt add the label. When choosing a local creator, do not look at numbers alone: ask where the followers live, whether the comments sound human and which kinds of businesses the creator has worked with. Creator selection, brief and contract are a separate job covered on our influencer marketing page; on the account side we handle the label and the check after publishing.
11Privacy, consent and copyright
Do not publish an identifiable person without clear permission; in Germany the right to one's own image is protected by § 22 KunstUrhG. Prepare a written consent form for the patient in the treatment room, the customer at the counter or your own employee. Images of children need the consent of a parent.
- Customer and staff images: written permission, purpose of use and a way to withdraw sit on the form.
- Music: a song used in a Reel or story has to follow Meta's music guidelines; do not copy the song playing in your shop into the video.
- Impressum: a profile used commercially should offer an easily accessible Impressum under § 5 DDG; the bio links to the page on your own website.
- Health: the Heilmittelwerbegesetz limits healing promises and comparison images; check with your chamber or lawyer before publishing.
For legal questions ask a Rechtsanwalt; this guide is not legal advice. For data protection, the GDPR (DSGVO) applies. Three everyday rules help: collect no more data than needed, delete customer screenshots when the job is done, and never add people to broadcast lists without consent. Check the background of every shot for faces, license plates and documents; it is easier than deleting afterwards.
12Measurement and the monthly report
A monthly report is useful when it shows movement that turns into work, not likes. Reach, saves, shares, profile visits, link clicks, route requests and messages that became inquiries are read together, and we promise none of them in advance.
- Add a tag to the bio link with the UTM builder; use a separate link per campaign.
- Track searches, route requests and call button taps from the Google profile on a separate line.
- Mark in a simple table how many incoming messages went to the phone and how many became jobs.
- At the end of the month talk about what worked, what to drop and the plan for the next month.
The report has these lines: reach and saves trend, profile visits, link clicks, Google profile searches and routes, number of inquiries and jobs among them, and three decisions for next month.
Fair and Advent months run higher, so compare them with similar periods, not with their neighbors. Follower count alone is not a measure of success; a social media management Herne report exists so you can see what to change next month. Paid boosting is considered afterwards, for a post that already works; we plan it separately, see Meta ads management. Ad budget is part of no package.
13Six mistakes of Herne businesses and what to do instead
These are common patterns in small businesses, and each one has a practical counterpart.
- Tagging only the city name: write the district where you really work, such as Crange, Röhlinghausen or Sodingen.
- Being unprepared in fair week: plan hours and route weeks ahead and keep story templates ready.
- Meeting Turkish speaking customers with a translation: write short separate Turkish posts.
- Leaving messages unanswered at busy hours: set up ready replies and a rule for handoff to the phone.
- Buying followers or reviews: it breaks platform rules and brings no real customers; invest in content and conversation.
- Posting customer images without permission: make the written consent form part of the job.
Do not try to fix everything at once. First message handoff and a consistent Google profile, which are quick wins; then district tags and the language line; the fair and Advent plan comes last. At the end of the first month ask one question: can a customer who looks at this account learn in thirty seconds when you are open, where you are and how to reach you? If yes, the foundation is solid.
14Choosing a partner and the first 90 days
A good social media management Herne partner says plainly what they can do for the city and also what they cannot. We keep no office, staff or local crew in Herne; the work runs fully online, and the filming is done by you or a photographer you choose. Türkiye is one hour ahead of Germany in summer and two hours ahead in winter, so we place meetings inside your business hours.
- First 30 days: account review, district and language decision, shot list, first publishing calendar.
- Days 31 to 60: regular production, the reply guide goes live, the Google profile is aligned.
- Days 61 to 90: first quarterly review, dropping formats that do not work, seasonal plan.
Five questions to ask any partner:
- What exactly do you do for Herne, what do you not do, and who films?
- With which access rights do you work, and who owns the accounts?
- Do you write German and Turkish lines separately, or translate?
- Which indicators do you report, and which results do you not promise?
- How are advertising, review and consent rules checked before publishing?
The scope and fee depend on the number of platforms, the monthly volume, the number of languages, the video share and the message volume. Current packages are listed under pricing; for questions, book a free intro call through our contact page. If you also need the website side, see web design for Herne.
